While many fans have just finished up the season finale of Marvel’s Loki on Disney+, many are rejoicing that it won’t be the last we see of the smash-hit series! An immediate fan favorite among Marvel viewers, the Loki Disney+ series has officially been confirmed as getting a second season. As unique as the series is, this Season 2 announcement adds even more to its legacy by making it the first of the Disney+ live-action Marvel series to get a second season renewal.

Disney and Marvel Studios used the mid-credits “stinger” to make the formal announcement. No other details for Season 2 of Loki have been revealed at this time.

Based on the way the recent season finale ended, series star Tom Hiddleston is expected to return alongside Owen Wilson, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Sophia Di Martino, and Wunmi Mosaku for Season 2. Fans also have their fingers crossed for the return of Jack Veal’s Kid Loki and his companion Alligator Loki, who stole the show in Episode 5 of the first season.

While the first to receive a second season, Loki is the third of Marvel’s live-action streaming series set within the same world as their popular Marvel Cinematic Universe films. The first series, WandaVision, ended its nine-episode run with a series finale that sets up for Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff to appear in Marvel’s upcoming sequel, Doctor Strange: In The Multiverse Of Madness. While not yet confirmed by Marvel, Tom Hiddleston’s Loki is also expected to appear alongside Benedict Cumberbatch in this multiverse-spanning Doctor Strange sequel when it premieres next March, according to THR.

Marvel’s other series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, has not yet been confirmed as coming to a complete end but has also not had a follow-up season announced as of yet. The series told a complete story from beginning to end during its six-episode run and is believed to serve as a bridge to the next Captain America movie; a movie that sees Anthony Mackie carrying the shield as the franchise’s new lead. This continues the interesting trend that Marvel is setting, staking a lot of importance on these Disney+ streaming series and making sure that audiences see them as essential viewing if they want to keep up with all of the goings-on in the MCU.

While Loki has ended its premiere season, Marvel Studios isn’t done with their Disney+ series yet. This year alone we still have several new shows to look forward to, including the animated What If… that premieres August 11, 2021, plus Hawkeye and Ms. Marvel (which are both set to debut in late 2021). Beyond the end of the year, we still have plenty of other shows to look forward to like She-Hulk, Iron Heart, Secret Invasion, Moon Knight, and Wakanda; and those are just the ones that have been announced! Who knows what kind of amazing new projects Marvel is working on behind the scenes that the world is unaware of as of yet! Plus, we have new Marvel Studios theatrical releases to look forward to this year like Shang Chi: The Legend of The Ten Rings, The Eternals, and Spider-Man: No Way Home.
