SDCC: Marvel Studios Announces (Almost) All Of Phases 5 And 6

One of the most anticipated panels at San Diego Comic-Con is always the one presented by Marvel Studios (when they have one). Following the pandemic, the Disney subsidiary made a triumphant return to Hall H and didn’t disappoint, with president Kevin Feige unveiling nearly all of Phases 5, 6, and 7, although there were a few mystery projects in the later phases that Feige withheld.

Feige also presented the trailer for the final movie of Marvel Phase 4, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and welcomed several stars of upcoming projects who teased as much as they could.

Below is the list of all of the projects that Feige announced or confirmed. (Movies are in bold.)

PHASE FOUR

She-Hulk: Attorney At Law (Aug. 17 – Disney+)
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (Nov. 11, 2022)

PHASE FIVE

Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania (Feb. 17, 2023)
Secret Invasion (spring 2023 — Disney+)
What If…? season two (early 2023 — Disney+)
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (May 5, 2023)
Echo (summer 2023 — Disney+)
The Marvels (July 28, 2023)
Loki season two (summer 2023 — Disney+)
Ironheart (fall 2023 — Disney+)
Blade (Nov. 3, 2023)
Agatha: Coven of Chaos (Winter 2023-24 — Disney+)*
Daredevil: Born Again (spring 2024 — Disney+)
Captain America: New World Order (May 3, 2024)
Thunderbolts (July 26, 2024)

(*Formerly known as Agatha: House of Harkness)

There appears to be a mystery movie that falls between The Marvels and Blade.

PHASE SIX

Fantastic Four (Nov. 8, 2024)
Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (May 2, 2025)
Avengers: Secret Wars (Nov. 7, 2025)

Feige announced some release dates for Phase 7, but none of those titles were revealed.

There is a mystery movie between Fantastic Four and Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and another between the two Avengers movies. What is particularly shocking is that both of the announced Avengers movies are being released in the same year!  That could change, but for now, that’s pretty exciting!

There was no mention of the X-Men, so one or more of the mystery movies could feature them.  There was also no mention of Deadpool although there has been no indication that that franchise will actually be part of the MCU. It’s questionable because Feige has stated that upcoming Deadpool movies will be R-rated, making them a poor fit.

Other potential mystery entries could be sequels to Eternals, Shang-Chi, Spider-Man, or Doctor Strange. But we may have to wait a little longer for those.

Some fans have felt that the MCU has seemed rudderless since Endgame with the studio cranking out so many projects with so many new characters, most of which seem only loosely connected (if at all), and with Phase Four not seeming to be leading to anything in particular, the way that Phase One was building toward the formation of the Avengers, and Phases Two and Three leading to the big smackdown with Thanos.

While Feige and the folks at Marvel are always secretive, the fact that he confirmed Fantastic Four and Thunderbolts are on the way, and that fans can look forward to TWO new Avengers flicks at least gives some vague notion as to where this franchise is headed.

(Gotta say, Phase Five looks a lot like Phase Four, though with a lot of random projects.)

So what are you most looking forward to? Are you feeling more confident in the future of Marvel Studios now that you have a clearer picture of where this is all heading?
