With Marvel Studios gearing up for the June premiere of their new Loki series on Disney+, even the god of mischief himself is having trouble not talking about how excited he is for the show.

Thanks to Thanos, the Loki that fans knew and grew to love throughout the Thor films is sadly dead and gone; and along with him all of his character development. Trailers for the new Loki series have given fans a brief glimpse into what to expect from the show, which follows the Loki of an alternate timeline that was created when he managed to escape with the Tesseract when the Avengers traveled back in time to The Battle Of New York in 2012 in Avengers: Endgame. That means that we are seeing Loki immediately following the events of the first Avengers film, before all of his growth in Thor: The Dark World and Thor: Ragnarok.

Marvel’s God of Mischief is now a fugitive lost in time and space who finds himself in the custody of the Time Variance Authority (TVA). The TVA is now recruiting this Loki time-variant to straighten out the timelines and various new branches that he inadvertently created with his own time traveling.

Actor Tom Hiddleston, who has been playing Marvel’s Asgardian God Of Mischief Loki for a full decade, recently spoke to EE about his lengthy tenure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and his upcoming streaming series where he is finally front and center as the lead star.

It’s really exciting. I can’t believe I’m still playing the character. I’m honored that I am still, he’s been a huge part of my life. I’ve realized I’ve played him for a quarter of my life.

While Hiddleston has been a big part of the MCU since his debut as Loki in 2011, a streaming series for television is a much different vehicle for viewers to see him as compared to a film appearance.

This change has allowed him to expand upon the role and delve into who Loki is deep down, never mind that the series gives him an entirely new cast of characters to play off of.

The great thing is I was surrounded by amazing people, new people who haven’t played in this world before like Gugu [Mbatha-Raw], Wunmi [Mosaku], Richard E. Grant, and Owen Wilson. They all bring such extraordinary charisma and playfulness to the characters. Loki is the same Loki you know in a world you don’t know.

Marvel Studios’ Loki stars Tom Hiddleston, Owen Wilson, Richard E. Grant, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Sophia Di Martino, Sasha Lane, Erika Coleman, and Wunmi Mosaku. The series is set to premiere exclusively on the Disney+ subscription streaming service on June 11, 2021.

In the meantime, Marvel Studios is still premiering new episodes of The Falcon And The Winter Soldier weekly on Fridays, and the full run of Wandavision is also up for streaming so fans can get their MCU fix.
