Dwayne Johnson has landed another DC Comics role. In addition to starring in Black Adam, which is currently in production, he will voice Krypto the Super-Dog in the animated film DC’s League of Super-Pets.

Jared Stern and Sam Levine are set to co-direct, with a script by Stern. The film is already slated to be released in theaters on May 20, 2022.  DC’s League of Super-Pets will also include Supergirl‘s pet, Streaky the Super-Cat, Batman‘s Ace the Bat-Hound, and Wonder Woman‘s Jumpa, a kanga, a kangaroo-like creature native to Themiscyra. Warner Bros. is looking to cast other A-list superstars in these voice roles. The film will pit this animal League against the pets of various villains.

DC’s League of Super-Pets was announced in 2019 and was originally supposed to be released this year, but presumably, the delay was due to COVID-19.

In addition to the comics, the Super-Pets were featured in a series of children’s books, published by Raintree Paperbacks. Krypto had his own animated series on Cartoon Network in the mid-00s. That also featured Ace the Bat-Hound and Streaky the Super-Cat and lasted for two seasons.

As stated, Johnson is now filming Black Adam which is due to open on July 29, 2022.  That picture is being directed by Jaume Collet-Serra.  The cast also includes Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, Sarah Shahi as Adrianna Tomaz, Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone, Pierce Brosnan as Kent Nelson / Doctor Fate, plus Marwan Kenzari, James Cusati-Moyer, Bodhi Sabongui, Mo Amer, and Uli Latukefu in undisclosed roles.

Among Dwayne Johnson’s other upcoming projects are Jungle Cruise (in theaters and on Disney+ on July 30, 2021), Netflix’s Red Notice (fourth quarter of 2021), and The King (in pre-production). He recently launched the NBC comedy series Young Rock based on his own life story.

While the DC live-action movies can be hit or miss, their animated projects tend to be much more successful overall. No one saw it, but Teen Titans GO! to the Movies was actually really great, especially for lifelong DC Comics fans.

Are you looking forward to a family-friendly DC movie?  What do you think of Dwayne Johnson providing the voice for the lead character?
