The Dark Knight returns… with a new animated series, that is.

The new series Batman: Caped Crusader has a straight-to-series order. It will air on both HBO Max and Cartoon Network. The new toon comes with series star power behind it. Legendary Batman: The Animated Series creator Bruce Timm, blockbuster director, and producer J.J. Abrams, and Matt Reeves, the director of the upcoming The Batman feature film, are all on board as executive producers. The news came out of the WarnerMedia Upfronts, where the studio announced everything they have coming up for the next year.

Not a lot of details about the series format or cast have been announced. The released key art highlights the dark, gritty look of the character’s early appearances in Detective Comics. The series will use cutting-edge animation technology to recreate the world of Gotham City, Batman, and all of his deadly rogues. Fans can expect lots of action and drama, amazing visuals, and cool characters.

“It is always fun to feed the insatiable appetite fans have for all things Batman. Batman: Caped Crusader will entertain first-time and die-hard fans alike and, with such an impressive creative team in place, we know we have another future Batman classic in the making.”

Batman: The Animated Series was a masterpiece that shaped the perception of the character for an entire generation of fans.” WarnerMedia executive Sam Register told the press. “It is in that spirit that we are bringing together three master storytellers in J.J., Matt, and Bruce – each with their own intuitive understanding and affection for the character – to create a new series that will continue in that groundbreaking legacy”

A statement from Timm, Abrams, and Reeves said “We are beyond excited to be working together to bring this character back, to tell engrossing new stories in Gotham City. The series will be thrilling, cinematic, and evocative of Batman’s noir roots while diving deeper into the psychology of these iconic characters. We cannot wait to share this new world.”

Along with the new Batman: Caped Crusader series, WarnerMedia announced a new animated take on the Man of Steel.  My Adventures With Superman will star Jack Quaid and Alice Lee as Clark Kent and Lois Lane.
