The Season Two finale of The Mandalorian certainly delivered, but it did leave our masked bounty-hunting friend at a bit of a crossroads. He completed his mission to deliver the child to the Jedi and now finds himself with the Dark Saber… and the Dark Saber brings its own challenges. Unfortunately, fans will be waiting a while to find out what happens next.
Disney blogger/Verge reporter Julie Alexander tweeted the news that the Disney+ 2021 preview kit did not include Season 3 of The Mandalorian. In fact, the chronological list of all of Disney+’s tentpole releases does not show any Star Wars content until late in the year.
Disney sent out its 2021 preview kit. Chronological order for big, notable Disney+ titles. No Mando S3 on the list.
WandaVision – January
Falcon & Winter Soldier – March
Loki – May
What If – Summer
Hawkeye – Fall
Ms. Marvel – Late 2021

After more than a year, Disney+ has not offered as much original content as was expected. 2020 only saw two other scripted live-action series released on the streamer: The Right Stuff, which adapted the book about the beginnings of the American space program, and Diary of a Future President, a comedic drama about a young Cuban American girl who wants to grow up to be President of the United States. Granted, they did have to deal with the pandemic shutting down productions across the country.
Most of the list consists of Marvel projects, many of which were announced when Disney+ launched in November 2019. Wandavision, the MCU series on the streamer, debuts on January 15, followed by The Falcon and the Winter Soldier in March and Loki in May. Disney’s strategy looks like they want to keep viewers coming back week after week for new content as episodes for these series will stream weekly. Each new series will then begin shortly after the previous one ends, thus preventing users from suspending service while they wait for a complete series to drop (à la Netflix).
Of course, the 2021 schedule doesn’t include many of the projects announced last month during the Disney Shareholders video conference – which includes most of the new Star Wars shows (Andor, Obi-wan Kenobi). It’s possible that they may arrive on the network this year and that Disney is just finalizing their strategy.
Oddly enough, The Book of Boba Fett was not announced in the shareholder’s call. Jon Farveau told ABC’s Good Morning America that they kept the news of Boba Fett’s series quiet as not to spoil anything about the Season 2 ending of The Mandalorian.
Still, Disney+ has plenty of new content on the way, whether you are Marvel, Star Wars, or just a regular Disney fan.
