We knew that the Disney investor call would have plenty of big news for Marvel Studios, but oh man, did they deliver on that promise. While much of what they spoke about were projects that most have already heard of, such as the series coming to Disney+ in the coming year, Disney also gave us a sneak peek at many of the projects they have in various stages of development and production. Here’s what Kevin Feige on behalf of Disney had to offer:
Ms. Marvel
This is one that we’ve heard some buzz about already but it was great to hear it confirmed. Newcomer Iman Vellani will play the title role of a Pakistani teenage superhero. Feige also shared a Behind The Scenes featurette about the series. Check it out below.
Hawkeye
Most of us have probably already seen some of the news about Hawkeye, but the investor call was the official confirmation of Hailee Steinfeld in the role of Kate Bishop. Also confirmed is the inclusion of Maya Lopez, played by Alaqua Cox. No firm date was given for the series.
She-Hulk
Again, this one is no surprise to Marvel fans but we got some big confirmations about the series. Tim Roth is set to return as the Abomination, the role he played in the 2008 film, The Incredible Hulk. Also, Feige confirmed that Mark Ruffalo will appear in the series. Feige also teased a number of surprise Marvel characters, though did not give specifics, which makes sense, given that Jen Walters is a high-profile lawyer for the super-powered citizens of the Marvel Universe.
Moon Knight
This is a big one that I’m looking forward to. There were no specifics given about the series, besides the fact that it will be on Disney+.
Secret Invasion
Based on the massive Marvel Comics crossover epic, Secret Wars features the return of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Ben Mendelsohn as Talos. Not much info was given about the project, but fans of the comic story should have a basic idea of what they’re in for.
Ironheart
Ironheart is the story of RiRi Williams, played by Dominique Thorne, who is a genius inventor. In the comics, RiRi is a sort of successor to Iron Man, and the series will focus on her inventions and the suit of armor she creates.
Armor Wars
Not much was shared about this project besides an elevator pitch (“What happens when Tony Stark’s tech falls into the wrong hands?”), but they did confirm that Don Cheadle will appear in the series as Jim Rhodes. This one should be very cool.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special
Written and directed by James Gunn, the GOTG Holiday Special will film at the same time as Guardians of the Galaxy 3. Is this Marvel’s answer to the Star Wars Holiday Special? I sure hope so. It will be streaming on Disney+ during the holiday of 2022.
I Am Groot
I Am Groot will be a series of shorts starring Baby Groot. Based on some of the mischief he got up in in Guardians of the Galaxy 2, this series should be a lot of fun.
That’s about it for the newly announced Marvel series coming to Disney+. There’s a ton of great content to look forward to in the coming years, and there’s no doubt that Marvel is going to tie so many of these to the MCU. They really are creating a sprawling world for us and I, for one, am excited.
