‘Deadpool 3’ Reportedly Won’t Make Its May Premiere Date

It has been reported that Deadpool 3 won’t be making its May 3, 2024 premiere date, although Disney has not issued an official announcement.  Insiders are stating that the movie, to be directed by Shawn Levy, was only halfway filmed when the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes caused it to hit the breaks.  This marks the first major 2024 movie to be postponed.  A bunch from 2023 have already been pushed back including such major releases as Dune II.

Disney may move Captain America: Brave New World to May 3, which was its original release date before it got pushed to July 26. That movie has already been shot and is in post-production, not counting potential reshoots, a process that isn’t impacted by the SAG strike,

Deadpool 3 will be the first Marvel Studios release to feature characters from the X-Men universe, a franchise previously held by 20th Century Studios until Disney acquired it.  Ryan Reynolds stars in the film. Hugh Jackman is returning to the role of Wolverine, even sporting a costume heavily inspired by the cartoons and comic books.  Returning from the 20th Century Deadpool installments are Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Deadpool’s fiancée (who… kind of died, right?), Leslie Uggams as Blind Al, Deadpool’s roommate, Karan Soni as taxi driver Dopinder, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio, and Rob Delaney as Peter, plus the voice of Stefan Kapičić as Colossus.

It’s also heavily rumored that actors and characters from previous X-Men movies will return, including Patrick Stewart as Professor X and Halle Berry as Storm.  There will even be an appearance by a character from a different superhero franchise — Jennifer Garner as Elektra, a character she played in the 2003 film Daredevil and in her own spinoff Elektra in 2005.

The first two Deadpool pictures made a combined $1.56 billion worldwide.

Levy takes over helming duties after Tim Miller directed the first and David Leitch the second.  As Levy previously expressed:

“I wasn’t going to mess with the DNA of that franchise… Our movie is raw, audacious, very much R-rated, and we went to great lengths to not shoot it on soundstages with digital environments.

“We wanted something that felt, grounded, real. … You put Hugh Jackman in his most iconic character alongside Ryan Reynolds in his most iconic character; it’s more of a descendant of Midnight Run and 48 Hours and Planes, Trains and Automobiles more than it’s a descendant of Airplane!

Are you upset that it appears that Deadpool 3 has been delayed indefinitely?
