Just days after rumors swirled that Ben Affleck would reprise his role as Daredevil in Deadpool 3, it turns out that it is actually his co-star and ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, who will make an appearance as the assassin Elektra. (Keep in mind, that doesn’t mean Affleck WON’T also return; it just hasn’t been confirmed.)
After co-starring in the 2003 Daredevil movie, Garner received her own solo Elektra movie in 2005. Unfortunately, neither film was very well-received. The all-American Garner took flack for portraying a character who, in the comics, is Greek.
Elektra is a martial artist and assassin known for her mastery of the Sai.
Who Else May Join Jennifer Garner In Deadpool 3?
There have been rumors of other characters from past Marvel (but not Marvel Studios) movies also making appearances in Deadpool 3 since this is a multiverse story, but Garner’s is the first that is official.
Ryan Reynolds returns as the Merc with a Mouth, and Hugh Jackman will co-star as Wolverine and is even rumored to sport his famous yellow and blue costume from the comics, although that will likely just be a brief gag. Other regulars from the previous Deadpool installments that will be back are Morena Baccarin as Vanessa, Rob Delany as Peter, Brianna Hildebrand as Negasonic Teenage Warhead, Stefan Kapičić as Colossus, Shioli Kutsuna as Yukio, Karan Soni as Dopinder, and Leslie Uggams as Blind Al. Emma Corrin and Matthew Macfadyen have been cast in undisclosed roles.
Halle Berry recently teased that she would return as Storm. There has also been buzz that Fanke Janssen will return as Jean Grey, as well as James Marsden as Cyclops, Ian McKellen as Magneto, and Patrick Stewart as Professor X.
The latest rumor is that Owen Wilson’s time-traveling character from Loki, Mobius M. Mobius will pop up and that would actually make sense. Time travel, dimension-hopping… what’s the difference?
Channing Tatum was speculated to appear as Gambit, a character he was signed to play in a solo movie. However, those plans were scrapped when Disney bought out 20th Century, but the actor has since denied that.
Deadpool 3 will hit theaters on May 3, 2024.
