Patrick Stewart Was Told To “Stand By” For ‘Deadpool 3’

Everyone is speculating as to what Deadpool 3 will be about and how Ryan Reynold’s Merc with a Mouth will be integrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as well as what that means for the future of the X-Men as part of this franchise.  It’s already known that the film will co-star Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.

Now it seems there is a glimmer of hope that another star of the Fox X-Men franchise, who has already appeared in the MCU, may also play a role.  When asked by ComicBook.com‘s Jamie Lovett whether he was in the sequel, Patrick Stewart replied:

“I’ve been told to stand by. I know nothing more than that, honest.”

A parallel universe version of Stewart’s Professor Charles Xavier, scooting around in the same yellow hoverchair from the ’90s animated series, appeared in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Joining him was John Krasinski as Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic, the first use of this character in the MCU.  Anson Mount as Black Bolt, a role he played on the Inhumans TV series which is not considered part of the MCU, Hayley Atwell as Captain Carter, a super soldier version of her MCU character, as she was depicted in the What If…? animated series, and Lashana Lynch as Maria Rambeau, that reality’s version of Captain Marvel, were also featured.

However, that was a universe unto itself and not Fox’s. That continuity is so jumbled it seems like its own multiverse, as even though Reynolds played Deadpool in his own movies, he also previously played a version in X-Men Origins: Wolverine that is clearly not the same person.

Disney’s former and current CEO, Bob Iger, has stated that Deadpool 3 will be rated R, so there is some concern as to whether this is part of the PG-13 MCU at all.  Will all the mutants be separated from the 616 Universe in their own world?

There does seem to be a lot of care taken regarding the Fox movies. Jackman has stated that Deadpool 3 takes place before the events of Logan so it sounds like that movie is still canon.

Deadpool 3 is expected to begin filming in May and already has a release date of November 8, 2024.  Shawn Levy, who directed Reynolds in Free Guy and The Adam Project, is at the helm. Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick returned to pen the script.

Stay tuned for updates as they arrive!
