Has The Villain For ‘Captain Marvel 2’ Been Revealed?

Brie Larson as Captain Marvel
Disney

RUMOR/SPOILER ALERT: The information below is strictly RUMOR and speculation at this point. There could be some SPOILERS for Captain Marvel 2, so proceed with caution and take everything with a grain of salt.

While nothing about Captain Marvel 2 has been OFFICIALLY confirmed, a new casting description may have revealed the movie’s villain. Keep in mind, this is just speculation.

Reportedly, the casting directors are seeking a “Supporting Male Role, in the 20-30 age range” and a “Timothée Chalamet or Michael B. Jordan type.” Keep in mind, casting notices always list these sorts of “types” and rarely do those actual actors get cast. And let’s not forget that Jordan has already had a major role in the MCU as Erik “Killmonger” Stevens in Black Panther. As for Chalamet… well, that could be cool, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Now ALLEGEDLY, there will be an obvious villain throughout the sequel, played by Zawe Ashton. But there will also be another character who is introduced as a friend, which is the character being cast in the description above. But in classic Marvel fashion, in the third act, it is revealed that this character is a villain. (*Yawn.*)

Korvac and The Avengers
Marvel Comics/Disney

And reportedly, that villain will be Michael Korvac, who, in the comics, is a cyborg from the 31st century and enemy to the original Guardians of the Galaxy. After stealing some of Galactus’ Power Cosmic, Korvac became an almost god-like being and battled the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy in the classic “Korvac Saga” in 1978.

A version of Korvac has appeared in the MCU-adjacent Guardians of the Galaxy animated series.

The website thathashtagshow.com reports that Korvac was indeed in an early version of the script, but I have no way to confirm that.  Once again, that all of this with a grain of salt.

What is FACT is that Captain Marvel 2 will be directed by Candyman‘s Nia DaCosta. The first screenplay was written by Anna Boden & Ryan Fleck (who directed the first CM) and Nicole Perlman (who co-wrote the first CM and Guardians of the Galaxy). Megan McDonnell (WandaVision) has since worked on a newer draft.

Brie Larson will return in the lead role, and it has been confirmed that Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) and Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani) will appear. Monica made a dazzling debut in the hit WandaVision, setting her up for a major role in the MCU going forward. Vellani’s Kamala Khan will premiere in Ms. Marvel on Disney+ later this year.

For the time being, Captain Marvel 2 is scheduled to be released on November 11, 2022.
