Laurel Marsden has been cast in Disney+’s series Ms. Marvel as Zoe Zimmer! Zoe is a character who in the comics starts out as a typical mean girl, but who, over the course of the book, eventually becomes friends with the lead character Kamala Khan and her friend Nakia Bahadir. (Especially, Nakia, wink!) Zimmer is the first person that Ms. Marvel saves after gaining her powers. Marsden’s casting was first announced by The Hollywood Reporter, but Marvel has yet to officially confirm it.
Marsden co-starred with Sophie Turner on the Quibi series Survive, which ended when that short-form streaming service collapsed after less than a year of existence.
Iman Vellani will star on Ms. Marvel in the titular role. That cast also includes Aramis Knight as Kareem/Red Dagger, Saagar Shaikh as Kamala’s brother, Amir Khan, Rish Shah as Kamran, and Matt Lintz as Kamala’s best friend, Bruno Carrelli. In unknown roles are Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Yasmeen Fletcher, Laith Naki, Azher Usman, Travina Springer, and Nimra Bucha.
Ms. Marvel was developed for television by Bisha K. Ali. Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, and Meera Menon are all attached to direct.
Kamala Khan is a first-generation child of Pakistani immigrants living in New Jersey, just a bridge away from all the action in the Marvel Universe — New York City. She and her family are Muslim, but the comics have established that she is a character that all people can relate to.
In the comics, Kamala takes the name Ms. Marvel as a tribute to her idol Carol Danvers. In the movies, however, Danvers never went by the name “Ms. Marvel,” so that could just be a name that Kamala comes up with on her own on the show.
Ms. Marvel is currently in production in Atlanta. It is expected to debut on Disney+ in late 2021.
