‘Agatha: Coven Of Chaos’ Welcomes Back ‘WandaVision’s Debra Jo Rupp

Debra Jo Rupp. in WandaVision

Another cast member from WandaVision will return to the sort-of follow-up Disney+ series Agatha: Coven of Chaos.  Debra Jo Rupp, who played Mrs. Hart, the wife of Vision’s boss, will return. However, it’s unknown what role she will play in the new show. Most of the identities on WandaVision were fabrications created by Wanda’s mind control.  In the end, it was revealed that her real name was Sharon Davis.

Emma Caulfield Ford, who played “Dottie Jones,” the neighborhood’s Queen Bee, will also be back. We also know on Agatha she will play Sarah Proctor, the name of a famous witch from the old Salen witch hunt era.

And, of course, headlining the show will be Kathryn Hahn, as Agatha Harkness, a powerful witch who turned out to be the antagonist of WandaVision.  This was following her masquerading as the “nosey neighbor” Agnes.

Also coming back from WandaVision is writer and executive producer Jac Schaeffer.

Aubrey Plaza has reportedly been cast in a villain role, which is a little odd, considering that Agatha herself is pretty much a villain.  Heartsopper‘s Joe Locke has been cast in a male lead role, with almost everyone assuming that he is playing some version of Billy Kaplan/Wiccan, who, in the comics, is the Scarlet Witch’s son and is arguably the highest-profile gay superhero in all of comics.

The cast of Agatha also includes Ali Ahn (Raising Dion), and Maria Dizzia (The Good Nurse) who are both expected to be playing fellow witches.  Most recently, Broadway legend Patti LuPone and SNL alum Sasheer Zamata were cast in undisclosed roles.

There are rumors that Elizabeth Olsen will return as Wanda Maximoff/The Scarlet Witch, however, it’s not likely that Paul Bettany’s Vision (or White Vision, rather) will appear, as he has his own Disney+ show, Vision Quest, on the way.

Where You May Have Seen Debra Jo Rupp

Rupp’s casting in WandaVision was rather genius considering that this series spoofed sitcoms from various decades.  She is most famous for starring in a sitcom from the 1990s that was set in the ’70s — That ’70s Show. She played Kitty Foreman, the wife of the cantankerous Red (Kurtwood Smith) and the mother of the show’s main character Eric (Topher Grace).  Rupp, Smith, and Grace are all returning for the Netflix sequel series That ’90s Show.

Rupp has had a lengthy career, appearing in many movies and TV shows, including lending her voice to animation.  But perhaps, outside of That ’70s Show, she is most recognized for her guest appearances as Alice Knight Buffay on Friends.  Her character was the high school teacher of Phoebe’s brother, Frank (Giovanni Ribisi) who wound up marrying him and mothering his children, although it was Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) who carried the triplets.

Agatha: Coven of Chaos will consist of nine episodes and is expected to launch later this year.
