There’s going to be a Parks and Recreation reunion on Agatha: Coven of Chaos, which stars Kathryn Hahn, who previously guest-starred on Parks & Rec multiple times as political consultant Jennifer Barkley. Of course one of the sitcom’s main stars was Aubrey Plaza, who portrayed the deadpan April Ludgate. Now Plaza has reportedly been cast as a villain on Coven of Chaos.
This is actually Plaza’s second Marvel role. She played Lenore “Lenny” Busker on FX’s Legion (above), starring Dan Stevens, a program based on the X-Men comic books, but isn’t connected to any other Marvel shows or movies. (I don’t believe it’s even connected to Fox’s overall X-Men franchise.)
Aubrey Plaza currently stars on HBO Max’s hit White Lotus and lends her voice to the FXX animated series Little Demon. Among her film credits are Dirty Grandpa, Ingrid Goes West, and Emily the Criminal.
WandaVision creator Jac Schaeffer returns to write and executive produce Coven of Chaos. Another WandaVision cast member, Emma Caulfield Ford, also returns. In WandaVision, Ford played “Dottie” the “leader” of the housewives of Westview. At the end of the series, it was revealed that before Wanda’s brainwashing, Dottie’s real name was Sarah Proctor. A woman that was famously found guilty of being a witch in old Salem was named Elizabeth Proctor, so clearly this forms a connection to those real-world events and possibly teases that Sarah will have magical powers.
It was just revealed that Heartstopper star Joe Locke had also been cast, although, like Plaza, his role hasn’t been revealed. However, fans all over the internet — including myself — have speculated that he will play Billy Kaplan/Wiccan, a version of Wanda and Vision’s son.
Even though it was emphasized in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness that Wanda’s sons in the 616 universe weren’t real and were just figments of her imagination, a similar storyline transpired in the comics. There were some magical… shenanigans, resulting in both Billy and his twin brother Tommy actually being born to other parents only to develop their powers upon reaching adolescence and discovering that Wanda was kind of their real mother.
As far as Plaza, unfortunately, I don’t have a guess as to who she will be playing. Keep in mind, her character could be an original created for this show.
Agatha: Coven of Chaos is expected to hit Disney+ in just over a year, in the winter of 2023 or 24. A second WandaVision spinoff, Vision Quest has also been announced although it likely won’t arrive for another few years.
