Disney+ To Bring Back Paul Bettany In ‘Vision Quest’

Disney has announced that Paul Bettany’s Vision will return in his own show on Disney+, entitled Vision Quest.  Although The Vision was killed in Avengers: Infinity War, he was sort of brought back to life by his beloved Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) in WandaVision.  At the end of the series, S.W.O.R.D. rebuilt Vision’s old body, but this version was a blank slate.  He battled Wanda’s Vision, who was just a creation of her magic.  This new White Vision flew off to parts unknown.

This mirrors a storyline from the comic book The West Coast Avengers from 1989, although as usual, the MCU often simply takes inspiration from the comics and doesn’t actually faithfully adapt them.

Reportedly, Vision Quest will follow Vision’s… er, quest to regain his memory and humanity.  There is a lot of speculation that we might actually see the return of Wanda, who appeared to die in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness after one of the darkest villain-turns ever seen onscreen.  After that twist, it’s hard to imagine that Wanda, a.k.a. The Scarlet Witch, can be redeemed.  But it is possible that she could appear in flashbacks or dream sequences.  After all, fans never really got to see their relationship blossom, as the films skipped a couple of years between Captain America: Civil War and Infinity War.

A writers room is being set up sometime this week.  WandaVision creator, writer, and executive producer Jac Schaeffer will oversee the writers room, as she is with another WandaVision spinoff, the previously announced Agatha: Coven of Chaos starring Kathryn Hahn.

WandaVision was the first Marvel Disney+ series and remains the most critically acclaimed.

It hasn’t been announced how many episodes will comprise Vision Quest, but that may come later as the writers concoct a story.  Episode lengths of the Marvel shows have varied from one to the next, usually around six to eight, but it is known that the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again will be a whopping 18.  We also recently saw a one-shot Halloween special Werewolf By Night, so there is no telling how long Vision Quest will be.  It seems that Marvel and Disney+ aren’t dictating episode counts and are just tailoring that to how much story the creators have to tell.  (Hopefully.)

Marvel recently announced a number of upcoming TV projects, while also postponing several movies, so it remains to be seen when Vision Quest will actually arrive. Be sure to check back for updates!
