Get Ready For More Fun Stuff: ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Is Swinging Back Into Theaters With An Extended Edition

Andrew Garfield, Tom Holland and Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in Spider-Man: No Way Home
Sony

Are three Peter Parkers more than enough? NO!!! Spider-Man: No Way Home delighted fans by introducing the current Wall-Crawler, Tom Holland, with the two previous cinematic versions, Tobey Maguire, who starred in the original Sam Raimi trilogy, and Andrew Garfield, who had the misfortune of headlining the ironically named “Amazing” flicks, helmed by Mark Webb. Those movies were so poorly-received that the third movie was scrapped before it could get off the ground and Sony formed a pact with Disney/Marvel Studios to introduce a new take on Spidey, with Holland landing that role. (However, it’s been very nice to see how many fans have rallied around Garfield since the release of No Way Home. It wasn’t his fault those movies were lackluster! He just acted in them!)

Spider-Man: No Way Home was such a crowdpleaser that it became the first (and so far, only) billion-dollar movie of the COVID-19 era. (Actually, it’s already close to $2 billion globally.) Its grosses are set to rise even higher! Sony has announced that the film will be re-released in theaters over Labor Day Weekend with new, never-before-seen footage. The new edit is dubbed Spider-Man: No Way Home – The More Fun Stuff Version.  (Well, that’s delightful!)

Amazing Fantasy #15
Marvel Comics – Disney

This re-release is meant to coincide with the 60th anniversary of Spider-Man’s debut in the comics. Marvel’s flagship hero, co-created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, premiered in Amazing Fantasy #15 which was cover-dated August 1962.

Labor Day falls on September 5 this year, meaning that the weekend kicks off on the 2nd. Tickets for Spider-Man: No Way Home – The More Fun Stuff Version will go on sale on August 9.

It was not stated how much extra footage will be added.  Obviously, there is no hint at what that footage will include, although perhaps the most entertaining part of this movie was the brotherly interaction between the three Peters. Some of those moments, including the “back crack” scene, were ad-libbed. How much more riffing did Tom, Tobey, and Andrew perform that wound up on the cutting room floor?

Another fan favorite (or fan service-y, depending on who you ask) bit involved the inclusion of Netflix’s Daredevil, Charlie Cox. He had a fairly small part, but Cox himself has mentioned a cut scene involving an exchange between his character and Jon Favreau’s Happy Hogan. Favreau appeared in the 2003 Daredevil movie (with Ben Affleck) as Matt Murdock’s law partner, Foggy Nelson. I think it’s safe to say that this dialogue will be restored.

It is also known that there is also a scene that included Lexi Rabe as Morgan Stark that was cut.

Spider-Man: No Way Home also starred Zendaya as Michelle “M.J.” Johnson, Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Stephen Strange, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, Jamie Foxx as Electro, Willem Dafoe as the Green Goblin, Alfred Molina as Doc Ock, Benedict Wong as Wong, Tony Revolori as Flash Thompson, and Marisa Tomei as May Parker.

How many times have you already seen Spider-Man: No Way Home?  Are you interested in seeing it on the big screen again with added scenes?
