The youth of America have spoken and they have declared their love for Spider-Man: No Way Home. The Sony superhero flick won the 2022 Kids’ Choice Awards for Favorite Movie, while stars Tom Holland and Zendaya were awarded Favorite Movie Actor and Actress, respectively.
In another Marvel victory, Tom Hiddleston won Favorite TV Actor (family) for his role in Loki.
However, the night’s other big winner was Disney+’s High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. That program took home Favorite Kids TV Show, while Joshua Bassett scored Favorite Male TV Star (Kids). The biggest teen idol around these days, Olivia Rodrigo, won Favorite Female TV Star (Kids). In the music categories, Rodrigo also won Favorite Breakout Artist, having scored four Billboard Top Ten hits including two #1s, “Driver’s License” and “Good 4 U.”
Yes, for some reason, Nickelodeon splits the Kids Choice Awards TV categories into “Kids” and “Family.” Honestly, I can’t figure out the difference considering iCarly won Favorite Family TV Show. I would consider that a kids’ show. Overall, the other nominees in the Family categories are shows/performers that aren’t necessarily for kids, but I suppose are kid-friendly. But iCarly? Oh well, whatever.
Speaking of, Miranda Cosgrove, who hosted the Kids’ Choice Awards along with Rob Gronkowski, was awarded Favorite Female TV Star (Family).
After winning the Golden Globe and Oscar, Disney’s Encanto REALLY has a reason to celebrate as it won the KCA for Favorite Animated Movie.
Elsewhere in animation, SpongeBob Squarepants won Favorite Cartoon for the NINETEENTH year! (This is the 13th consecutive victory, as in 2008, Avatar: The Last Airbender broke its winning streak… but SpongeBob has won every year since!)
At one point, Nick split the sports categories off into their own awards show. I guess that time has ended as the sports categories were back in the main Kids Choice Awards this year. There were also awards for music, video games, and online content.
