Andrew Garfield Says Lying About Being In ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ Was “Stressful But Also Weirdly Enjoyable”

Andrew Garfield in Tick Tick...Boom

Andrew Garfield just won a Golden Globe award for his leading role in the Netflix movie tick… tick… BOOM!, the biopic based on the life of playwright Jonathan Larson.  But a running joke on the internet is that he should have won an award for all those times he appeared to promote that movie and flat out lied about being in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Garfield reprised his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man from the Amazing Spider-Man movies, alongside Tobey Maguire, the first cinematic Spider-Man.  But even though EVERYONE knew the duo would be in No Way Home, as is the case with every superhero movie, the cast was kept under a strict gag order to not discuss any surprises.

Andrew Garfield, age 38 (WAIT… is that RIGHT?!  Guess so…), recently admitted:

“It was stressful, I’m not gonna lie.  It was rather stressful but also weirdly enjoyable.”

As far as his deception surrounding No Way Home, Garfield went on to say:

“It was like this massive game of Werewolf that I was playing with journalists and with people guessing, and it was very fun.  There were moments where I was like, ‘God, I hate lying.’ I don’t like to lie and I’m not a good liar, but I kept framing it as a game. And I kept imagining myself purely as a fan of that character, which is not hard to do.”

Werewolf appears to be a party card game where certain players are werewolves/killers and others are villagers.  It sounds kind of fun.  Too bad we can’t have parties and gather in groups anymore.  Again.

In all honesty, Tobey Maguire had his trilogy and this marks Tom Holland’s third turn in a solo movie (with more to come, it seems), but Garfield’s trilogy got cut short after The Amazing Spider-Man 2 underperformed at the box office and disappointed many viewers.  But his appearance in No Way Home has rekindled a desire to see him again in a solo Spider-Man movie to give him a proper send-off.

It should also be pointed out that Garfield did a better job lying about No Way Home than Holland does about any Marvel movie.  He’s the biggest blabbermouth in the whole MCU!

Would you like to see Garfield headline another Amazing Spider-Man movie?
