‘The Mandalorian’ Returns In 2023 And Is Bringing Back This Fan-Favorite Character

The Star Wars live-action television series The Mandalorian blew audiences away when it first premiered in 2019. The second season of the series also surpassed all expectations when it arrived on the scene just a year later in Winter 2020. To say that the excitement for the third season is palpable would be a severe understatement. And now we have our first information about when it’s coming!

This week at the Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim, CA, Mandalorian co-creators Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni took to the stage to announce that the third season of the hit series will premiere on Disney+ in February 2023. Furthermore, they confirmed the return of Katee Sackhoff as Bo-Katan Kryze, a fan-favorite character that first appeared in The Clone Wars animated series.

Bo-Katan’s return is an exciting turn of events. She and The Mandalorian’s titular star Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) seem to be destined for contention with one another whether they want to be or not. When we last saw them in the same room at the end of Season 2, Djarin had just bested Moff Gideon in combat. He won the legendary Darksaber, an ancient Mandalorian relic that determines who leads the Mandalorian people. Whoever wields the Darksaber must lead, and it must be won in combat. This leads to tensions between Din Djarin, who now holds the saber, and Bo-Katan, who is considered the Mandalorian people’s rightful leader. Djarin does not want to lead. He offered the Saber to Kryze, but she rejected his offer citing that it must be won in combat by its wielder.

Considering that there were already two sects of surviving Mandalorians, those who follow the old ways and those who follow Bo-Katan’s modern ways, things could be heating up for a major showdown among the Mandalorians who are left!

The Mandalorian Season 3 has been in development throughout the last several years while Disney, Lucasfilm, Favreau, and Filoni figured out what the next steps would be. They’ve also had their hands full with other Star Wars series like last year’s Mandalorian spinoff The Book Of Boba Fett and the development of the new Obi-Wan Kenobi series.

The Mandalorian has so far received 39 Emmy nominations and won 14. The series stars Pedro Pascal, Giancarlo Esposito, Carl Weathers, Katee Sackhoff, Amy Sedaris, and a constantly rotating cast of guest stars.

Season 1 and Season 2 of The Mandalorian and Season 1 of The Book Of Boba Fett are available for streaming now on Disney+. Season 3 of The Mandalorian will premiere in February 2023.
