Natasha Liu Bordizzo has been cast as the second lead in Ahsoka as the rebellious Mandalorian Sabine Wren.  That means that fans of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels can expect Sabine to play a major role in the upcoming live-action series which stars Rosario Dawson as Jedi Ahsoka Tano.

It was earlier rumored that three actors were in the running for the role of Sabine– Tati Gabrielle (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina), Lana Condor (Netflix’s To All The Boys… trilogy), and model Havana Rose Liu, but clearly, none of them worked out.

Bordizzo recently starred in the Quibi series The Most Dangerous Game and previously starred in the short-lived Netflix series The Society.  She co-starred in the Amazon Prime Video film The Voyeurs.

Ahsoka will be written by Dave Filoni, who created most of these characters in the earlier animated series.  Filoni will also serve as executive producer alongside The Mandalorian‘s Jon Favreau.

Sabine Wren is a Mandalorian and Rebel.  Her specialty was explosives, and she often signed her work with graffiti.  Many eagle-eyed viewers noticed graffiti on several walls in The Mandalorian Season 2, which may pave the way for Sabine’s introduction.

Perhaps one of the most important elements to her story is that Sabine at one time possessed the Dark Sabre, which wound up in the hands of Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito) in The Mandalorian.

In the finale of Rebels, Ahsoka and Sabine set out to find the character Ezra Bridgers and there is buzz that the Ahsoka TV series will feature a live-action version of that character, along with Grand Admiral Thrawn, a character introduced in Timothy Zahn’s 1991 novel Heir to the Empire and who later factored in heavily in the animated series.

It has also been widely reported that Hayden Christensen will appear as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, who was originally Ahsoka’s mentor on Clone Wars.

Production on Ahsoka is expected to begin in March 2022, meaning it probably won’t be released until sometime in 2023.  But check back for updates as they arrive!
