‘Stargirl’ Season 2 Trailer Brings New Villains And New Allies To Blue Valley

The JSA faces off with new enemies in season 2 of Stargirl

The CW has released an extended trailer for the second season of Stargirl which premieres this August. In it,  we get a look at some of the new faces that are coming to town this year on the DC Comics series.

Season Two looks to pick up right where Season One left off. The team just defeated the Injustice Society, and most of them are now ready for life to return to normal in Blue Valley, Nebraska. Rex (Cameron Gellmen), Yolanda (Yvette Monreal), and Beth (Anjelika Washington) look like they just want to be teenagers again. But Courtney (Brec Bassinger) is not ready to hang up her mask and boots just yet, much to her mother’s (Amy Smart) concern. Even Pat/S.T.R.I.P.E. (Luke Wilson), her crime-fighting partner and stepdad,  needs to remind her to balance her normal and hero life.

New Blood

Unfortunately, the bad guys have other plans. New threats are headed to Blue Valley. Villains like Eclipso (Nick Tarabay) and The Shade (Jonathan Cake), and old ones like Shiv (Meg DeLacy), look to make things difficult for Stargirl and the team. The arrivals look great. The Shade looks as if he came straight from the pages of James Robinson and Tony Harris’ run of Starman. (Still hoping on Jack showing up sometime… hint-hint DC.) And Eclipso (who is not in the trailer but we got a sneak peek of him last month) just oozes evil. With all these bad guys showing up in Blue Valley, Courtney and company are going to be very busy. Good thing help is on the way in the form of Jenny ‘Jade’ Hayden (Ysa Penarejo) and Jakeem Thunder (Akloya Brunson).

One thing we don’t see in the trailer is the Golden Age Flash played by John Wesley Shipp. Shipp appearing as the original DC speedster helps tie this series to the other existing CW DC series. He played the ‘Earth 3’ Jay Garrick, who appeared several times on the Grant Gustin fronted The Flash series since 2014. (On the pre-Crisis CW version of the multiverse, Earth 2 was not the home of the original DC Golden Age heroes.) That changed after the CW’s “Crisis on Infinite Earth” event when Oliver Queen, as the Spectre, recreated the multiverse and Stargirl’s Earth became the new Earth 2.

Stargirl Season 1

Stargirl Season 1, was produced for the late, lamented DC Universe streaming service in 2019 but didn’t arrive until 2020. By the time the series arrived, the DCU service days were numbered, and the series episodes appeared on the CW the day after they premiered on the app. Edgier DCU series like Titans, Doom Patrol, and the animated Harley Quinn found a home on the HBO Max service. The more wholesome Stargirl moved exclusively to the CW and CW app. (After the whole season airs, the series will also stream on HBO Max.)

Stargirl Season 2 premieres on Tuesday, August 10, on your local CW station, and free to stream on the CW app.
