Ezra Miller Won’t Be Recast If A Sequel To ‘The Flash’ Is Greenlit

Director Andy Muscietti is standing by his Flash.  With the latest DC spectacle heading toward theaters in two weeks, the helmer says that should the film do well and warrant a sequel, he plans to keep its star Ezra Miller, despite them being embroiled in legal problems and other controversial accusations.

Speaking to “The Discourse” podcast, Muschietti declared:

“If [a sequel] happens, yes.  I don’t think there’s anyone that can play that character as well as they did. The other depictions of the character are great, but this particular vision of the character, they just excelled in doing it. And, as you said, the two Barrys — it feels like a character that was made for them.”

Producer (and Andy’s sister) Barbara Muscietti added:

“In principal photography, Ezra was brilliant and the most committed and the most professional [actor]. Ezra gave everything for this role — physically, creatively, emotionally. They were absolutely supreme.”

The Flash has already been screened a few times. While there are no official reviews yet, there have been quite a few reactions on social media, and they are largely incredibly positive.  Hundreds of people have turned out for these screenings only to be turned away because there was no room, so there is a lot of anticipation from the fan community.

In January, Ezra Miller took a plea deal for a burglary incident last May.  They pled guilty to a lesser charge of misdemeanor trespassing and received one year of probation.  They also entered a therapy program following many violent interactions that did not lead to legal charges.  Miller has also been accused of grooming an underage person and of essentially running a cult out of their Connecticut farm compound.

Warner Bros. has remained mum, choosing instead to focus on The Flash, a film the studio seems to have a lot of faith in.  In addition to Miller, this film stars Ben Affleck as Batman, Michael Keaton as another Batman, Sasha Calle as Supergirl, and Michael Shannon as General Zod.

The Flash opens on June 16.
