Netflix’s controversial Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde took the top “honor” at this year’s Golden Raspberry Awards, a.k.a. The Razzies, Worst Picture. The flick also “scored” Worst Screenplay for Andrew Dominick who also directed. Blonde led the nominations this year with eight, so to come away with just two means it escaped relatively unscathed. (Its reviews were scathing enough.)
The film stars Ana de Armas who was not nominated for an acting Razzie. Instead, this year she is actually up for Best Actress at the Oscars, although the generally poor reaction to Blonde as a whole, not to mention stiff competition, would seemingly throw her out of the running.
Tom Hanks may be a national treasure, but 2022 was not his year. Hanks was nominated for Worst Actor for Disney’s Pinocchio, Worst Supporting Actor for Elvis, and Worst On-Screen Duo for Tom Hanks & His Latex-Laden Face (and Ludicrous Accent), also for Elvis.
At the Razzies, Hanks won the latter two. Elvis was a box office hit and Austin Butler has been scoring Best Actor wins from numerous bodies. Elvis is also up for Best Picture at the Oscars, but Hanks’ bizarre depiction of Col. Tom Parker was the sore thumb that stuck out of this Baz Luhrmann spectacle.
Disney’s Pinocchio took home Worst Remake, Rip-Off, or Sequel.
But… I mean, Tom Hanks will survive.
He did not “win” Worst Actor. Instead, it was Morbin’ Time with Jared Leto “winning” for Morbius. His co-star, Adria Arjona, was deemed Worst Supporting Actress.
The Razzies ate some humble pie when it came to the Worst Actress category. The entity had already rescinded its nomination for the 11-year-old Ryan Kiera Armstrong for Firestarter, issued an apology, and instituted a rule that they would never again nominate anyone under the age of 18.
But in an interesting move, the Razzies did not hand out a Worst Actress award this year, instead giving it to themselves for “Their 43rd Worst Actress Nominations Blunder.”
