The Razzies – Full Nominations List: ‘Blonde’ Leads Despite Ana De Armas’ Oscar Nomination

Ana de Armas as Marilyn Monrie in Blonde laughing in mirror
Netflix

Netflix’s fictionalized biopic of Marilyn Monroe, Blonde, leads the pack for this year’s Golden Raspberry Awards or “Razzies” with eight nominations.  It’s up for Worst Picture, Worst Remake/Rip-Off/Sequel, Worst Supporting Actor for Xavier Samuel and Evan Williams, Worst Screen Couple twice for director Andrew Dominik & His Issues with Women, and for “Both Real Life Characters in the Fallacious White House Bedroom Scene,” Worst Director for Dominik, and Worst Screenplay for Dominik.

Ironically, Ana de Armas, the star of the movie, was nominated for Best Lead Actress by the Academy Awards, the body that the Razzies were created to lampoon.

The Razzies describe Blonde by saying that it “explores the exploitation of Marilyn Monroe…by continuing to exploit her posthumously.”

Machine Gun Kelly and Mod Sun in Good Mourning
Briarcliff/Open Road

Musician Machine Gun Kelly (a.k.a. Colson Baker) trails Blonde with seven nominations for Good Mourning, which the Razzies describe as a “laugh-free stoner comedy achieving the rare feat of scoring a perfect ZERO on Rotten Tomatoes.”  Good Mourning (which I have never even heard of) is up for Worst Picture, with MGK getting nods for Worst Actor, Worst Screen Couple, Directing, and Screenplay, the latter three of which are shared with collaborator Mod Sun.  Pete Davidson is also up for Worst Supporting Actor for a cameo he made in the movie, alongside Mod Sun.

The Sony superhero flop Morbius nabbed five “honors” and is one of the highest-profile movies to be nominated this year.  It’s up for Worst Picture, Worst Actor for Jared Leto, Worst Supporting Actress for Adria Arjona, Worst Director for Daniel Espinosa, and Worst Screenplay for Matt Sazama & Burk Sharpless.

Tom Hanks as Colonel Tom Parker in Elvis and Geppeto in Pinocchio
Warner Bros. – Disney

Morbius isn’t the only bigger flick up for “honors” this year.  And surprisingly, one of the most beloved actors in the world had a really off-brand year — Tom Hanks.  “America’s Dad” turned in two really off-putting performances as Colonel Tom Parker in Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis and as Gepetto in Disney+’s live-action Pinocchio.  The Razzies described his portrayal of Parker as “latex-laden, ludicrously accented.”

While Pinocchio was universally panned, Elvis is up for Best Picture at the Oscars, and Austin Butler is nominated for Best Lead Actor, among the film’s other nods.  But Hanks’ bizarre performance has divided audiences and critics since the film’s opening last summer.  Some think that Hanks’ performance is great and should have been nominated for an Oscar, but I’m on the Razzies’ side on this one.  It was just weird.

Another big-budget hit, Jurassic World: Dominion also scored a few entries, for Bryce Dallas Howard for Worst Actress, Worst Remake/Rip-Off/Sequel, and Worst Screenplay for Emily Carmichael & Colin Trevorrow based on a story by Trevorrow & Derek Connolly.

In the Worst Picture race, Blonde, Disney’s Pinocchio, Good Morning, and Morbius are “competing” with The King’s Daughter. This historical fantasy starred Pierce Brosnan, although he managed to escape being nominated for Worst Actor.  However, that film is also up for Worst Actress for Kaya Scodelario, and Worst Supporting

Actress for Bingbing Fan (who is dually nominated in the same category for The 355).

Pete Davidson got some extra heat, being nominated for his voice work in Marmaduke in the Worst Actor category, opposite MGK, Hanks, Leto, and Sylvester Stallone in Samaritan.

For Worst Actress, Howard and Scodelario are facing off with Diane Keaton for Mack & Rita, and Alicia Silverstone for The Requin.  Originally, the Razzies also nominated Ryan Kiera Armstrong for Firestarter, a movie she made when she was just 11 years old.  After a public backlash, the Razzies took back the nomination and issued a public apology.

The Razzies will be handed out on Saturday, March 11, the day before the Oscars.  They will be streamed on their Youtube channel.
