‘Invincible’ Announces Late 2023 Return With A New Teaser Clip

Amazon Prime Video’s OTHER darkly comedic and gory superhero series, the animated Invincible, is set to return to the streaming service later this year.  There has been a two-year gap since the release of the first season but hopefully, the wait will be worth it.

The creators of the series acknowledge the long pause in a new teaser for the new season.  In the clip, Invincible/Mark Grayson, voiced by Steven Yeun, is sitting in the Burger Mart where he used to work talking with Allen the Alien (Seth Rogan) and the subject comes up that Mark has been missing for a long time.

As Allen says:

“What have you been up to? It’s been awhile.  I think everyone agrees it’s been, like, a little ridiculous how long it’s been.”

Mark replies:

“I’ve been busy writing, designing, storyboarding, voice acting, key posing, in-betweening, cleaning up, color slapping, comping the whole thing, and all that for, you know, roughly thousands of shots.  So, it’s kind of a lot.”

Allen replies that a lot of that sounded “made up.”

You can watch the clip for yourself below.

Even though Allen pressured Mark to give a specific date, all Mark could offer was “late this year.”

Omni-Man in Invincible

Based on the comic book written by Robert Kirkman with art by Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottley, Invincible focuses on a teenage superhero named Invincible, the son of the Superman-like Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons), an alien from the planet Viltrum.  However, in a twist, Omni-Man/Nolan Grayson turned out to be a scout planning to lead the Viltrumites to invade and conquer Earth.  As part of this plan, he murders the Guardians of the Globe, this universe’s pastiche of the Justice League.

However, Mark and the other teen heroes of this planet, the Teen Team, step up and replace the Guardians of the Globe and fend off the invasion.

The voice cast also includes Sandra Oh as Nolan’s wife and Mark’s mother, Debbie; Gillian Jacobs as Mark’s love interest and fellow superhero Atom Eve; Andrew Rannells as Mark’s best friend William Clockwell; Zazie Beetz as another of Mark’s love interests, Amber Bennett; Mark Hamill as super fashion designer Art Rosenbaum; Walton Goggins as Cecil Stedman, the head of the Global Defense Agency; Jason Mantzoukas as Rex Plode, another teen hero; Zachary Quinto as the sinister Robot; Mahershala Ali as the villain Titan; Melise as Dupli-Kate; Kevin Michael Richardson as recurring foes the Mauler Twins; Grey Griffin as Monster Girl; and Khary Payton as Black Samson.

Invincible debuted on Amazon Prime Video in March of 2021 and received nearly universal acclaim from critics and viewers and was renewed for two more seasons in May of that year.  However, of course, it has never matched the buzz generated by Prime’s more high-profile dark super series The Boys.  However, that could change when Season 2 drops later this year.

Are you a fan?  Are you excited to get another installment?
