‘The Boys’ Renewed For Season 4

While Amazon doesn’t release its viewership numbers (as is the case with most streaming services), it has been revealed that the viewership for The Boys has increased with each season. Season 3 is up +17% from S2 and +234% from S1. The first three episodes of S3 were released on Friday, June 3, with a fourth dropping this past Friday, June 10. Currently, this appears to be Amazon Prime Video’s flagship show, so it’s no surprise that The Boys has been renewed for a fourth season. This gory superhero epic’s popularity has soared thanks to excellent word of mouth and possibly the fact that it is seen as a balance to the wholesome Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Season 1 dropped in its entirety in July 2019. Like Season 3, Season 2 debuted with three episodes in the fall of 2020 before rolling out new installments weekly, one at a time.

The series was developed by Supernatural alum Eric Kripke, based on the comic books written by Garth Ennis and drawn by Darick Robertson.

Amazon Studios’ Vernon Sanders declared:

“From our first conversation with Eric Kripke and the creative team about Season Three of The Boys, we knew the show was continuing to get even bolder—an impressive feat considering the wild success of the Emmy-nominated second season.  This stylized world of the series has incredible global reach and the viewership for opening weekend is proof of that.”

Kripke announced:

“Speaking for the cast and crew, we’re so grateful to Sony, Amazon, and most of all the fans for embracing the show and allowing us to make more.  We’re thrilled to continue Butcher and the Boys’ fight against Homelander and the Seven, as well as comment on the insane world we’re living in. Also, this is the first time in history that exploding genitalia has led to further success.”

The Boys has already spawned two spinoffs, the animated anthology, The Boys Presents: Diabolical, which premiered in March, and The Boys Presents: Varsity (which may not be its actual name), set in a college for Supes, inspired by the G-Men in the comics. They are basically this world’s pastiche of the X-Men.

However, unlike another former hit TV series based on a gory comic book, The Walking Dead, it doesn’t sound like Amazon is going to milk The Boys the way AMC did. Sanders cautioned that “we want to pace ourselves.”

The Boys S3 stars Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Dominique McElligott, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, Nathan Mitchell, Colby Minifie, Claudia Doumit, and Jensen Ackles.

Are you pumped to see the fourth season?
