New Poster and Teaser Trailer For ‘Werewolf By Night’ Revealed At D23

A couple of months back, we reported on the leak of the upcoming Disney+ special, Werewolf By Night, which included a full synopsis of Marvel’s first-ever Halloween special. Today, much of those details were confirmed as Disney showed a teaser trailer for the special at their annual D23 event, and I am truly digging the vibe. Give it a watch above!

The entire trailer is a love letter to grindhouse horror movies, from the black-and-white presentation to the grainy film stock. Even the opening tag calling it a “Special Presentation” is a throwback to when local television stations would air old movies in the middle of the night.

I’m also very much interested in the animatronic-looking guy in the coffin—who, according to the captions, is named Ulysses. He reminds me of the Cryptkeeper—from Tales from the Crypt fame—with his jerky movements and terrible puns.

But besides the show’s presentation, there are other reasons to be excited for Werewolf By Night. Not only is it bringing new characters to the MCU—like the titular Werewolf—but it’s expanding Marvel’s horror franchises. As we learned from the previous leak, Elsa Bloodstone plays a large part in the special, played by Laura Donnelly. Elsa Bloodstone is Donnelly’s most recent role following her stint on HBO Max’s The Nevers.

In addition to Elsa Bloodstone, there’s also a very quick, blink-and-you’ll-miss-it shot of Man-Thing in the trailer. The previous leak had stated that Man-Thing would be the driving antagonist in the special, so it’s exciting to see that come true.

Not only did D23 show the trailer for Werewolf By Night, but fans also got a peek at a poster for the show. Just like the trailer, the poster is reminiscent of cinema gone by, with its fold creases and washed-out colors.

Werewolf By Night is going to be a great way to bridge Horror Marvel with the MCU, and I’m excited about a new special to watch during the Halloween season. If we’re lucky, we’ll get a future crossover with the Werewolf and Mahershala Ali’s Blade. (Disney loves money so this is almost a guarantee.)

Werewolf By Night stars Gael García Bernal, and Laura Donnelly and will premiere on Disney+ on October 7.
