‘The Flash’s Ezra Miller Apologizes And Enters Mental Health Treatment

After years of controversy, which amped up in the past few months, and just over a week from being charged by Vermont police for burglary, the embattled actor Ezra Miller has issued a public apology and announced plans to enter treatment for mental health.

In a statement, Miller admits, “… having recently gone through a time of intense crisis, I now understand that I am suffering complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment.”

They added:

“I want to apologize to everyone that I have alarmed and upset with my past behavior.  I am committed to doing the necessary work to get back to a healthy, safe, and productive stage in my life.”

Amidst all of their legal problems, Miller has recently been spotted in public accompanied by their mother, presumably to keep them in check.  It has long been speculated as to whether Warner Bros., the studio behind Miller’s biggest franchises, the DCEU, and Fantastic Beasts, would intervene, as Miller’s The Flash is one of their biggest upcoming films.  Miller didn’t reference any intervention on the part of WB, but it’s likely the studio and its executives had a hand in this development.

One executive told Deadline:

“This isn’t about business, it’s about a human being who is clearly in pain.”

In 2018, Ezra Miller was filmed choking a woman to the ground at a bar in Iceland, but no legal action was taken at that time.  In April, while under the influence, Miller assaulted at least one man and one woman at a karaoke bar in Hilo, Hawaii.  They were arrested, paid their $500 bail, and was released.  Just days later, in Pāhoa, Hawaii, Miller was arrested after a private residence for assault.  (The woman he assaulted by throwing a chair at her was one of the people that bailed him out after his incident at the karaoke bar!)  Miller was stopped for a traffic violation and taken into custody for the assault, after which they were released pending further investigation.

In mid-June, married couple Chase Iron Eyes and Sara Jumping Eagle filled papers accusing Miller of brainwashing and grooming their young daughter, born Tokata Iron Eyes, although they now identify as nonbinary and go by the name “Gibson.”  At the time, Miller could not be found to serve the papers and Gibson appeared to take to social media to refute their parents’ claims.

And more recently, more claims of grooming and forming a cult-like commune in Iceland emerged.

And of course last week, they were charged by Vermont police for breaking into a home and stealing bottles of alcohol in May.  (I’m pretty sure Miller can afford all the alcohol they want, so there was clearly more to that story.)  Miller was caught on a security camera during this crime.

WB must be happy that Miller is seeking help as it has a lot riding on The Flash.  Despite the new management from parent company Discovery axing many DC projects, the studio had maintained that The Flash WILL open in theaters.  Hopefully, Miller’s journey will sweep their misgivings under the rug before the film hits on June 23, 2023.

Are you planning to see The Flash when it arrives?
