The Boys star Antony Starr (Homelander) was arrested this past week in Alicante, Spain for assaulting 21-year-old chef Bathuel Araujo in a pub brawl. After a speedy trial, Starr was sentenced to a 12-month stay in jail. However, the sentence was suspended with Starr spending one year on probation since he has no criminal record. (Any sentence under two years in Spain is automatically suspended if the guilty party has no record.) He was also given a $5,464.97 fine which had to be paid within 72 hours. (It’s safe to assume he was able to accomplish that.) It’s no surprise that Starr was reportedly drunk at the time of the assault.
No, Homelander Can’t Do Whatever He Wants
It is reported that after a friend of Araujo told a friend of Starr’s that the actor was being a loud nuisance, a fight broke out with Starr punching Araujo twice and striking him with a glass. Araujo was reportedly hospitalized and received four stitches above one of his eyes.
Online, he posted:
“After he punched me, I was dizzy and that’s when he hit me with the glass by the left eyebrow.”
Starr was in Spain filming Guy Ritchie’s upcoming film The Interpreter starring Jake Gyllenhaal.
Starr’s presence on The Boys most likely won’t be impacted. Season 3 has already been filmed and is due to premiere at SXSW next week. Amazon Prime Video is slated to host a Q&A with the cast. Antony Starr was already not scheduled to appear as he will be in Spain filming until the end of the month.
The SXSW panel is expected to be attended by Karl Urban, Laz Alonso, Karen Fukuhara, Jessie T. Usher, Chace Crawford, and Jensen Ackles, the latter of whom joins the cast this season as a dark take on Captain America called Soldier Boy.
This story has been widely reported by Alicante’s largest newspaper but hasn’t been widely circulated in the U.S. Theoretically, Araujo could file a civil suit against Starr. It remains to be seen how big this news gets as to whether Starr’s involvement with The Boys is impacted. As we have seen in recent years, an actor’s behavior off the set can impact their employment in media projects.
