‘She-Hulk: Attorney At Law’ Gets A New Title, Trailer, And Release Date

The upcoming She-Hulk series coming to Disney+ has officially been renamed She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, according to the new trailer that you can see above. Like many Disney+ Marvel shows, this one breaks the mold and appears that this is more of a comedy. The series deals with Jennifer Walters (Tatiana Maslany), a low-key lawyer who is appointed to head up the superpowers division of her law firm.

Here is the show’s synopsis:

This new comedy series sees Bruce Banner help his cousin, Jennifer Walters, when she needs an emergency blood transfusion, and guess what? She receives his powers too. Tatiana Maslany will play Jennifer, who is a lawyer specializing in superhuman-oriented legal cases. Mark Ruffalo is back as the Hulk alongside Tim Roth, who plays the Abomination.

The trailer also features a glimpse of Titania, depicted by Jameela Jamil, who, in the comics, is essentially She-Hulk’s arch enemy.

Marvel Comics

In the trailer, Mark Ruffalo appears to still be in “Professor Hulk” mode. But in the comics, at the point when She-Hulk was introduced, Jennifer was different from the Hulk in that she retained her regular personality when in She-Hulk mode. In her ’80s comic series, The Sensational She-Hulk, she was shown breaking the fourth wall and speaking directly to readers.

Reportedly, Maslany’s She-Hulk will do the same on the show. Her comics are also known for being more comedic in tone and more sexually free. Based on the trailer, the Disney+ show will capture that as well.

There have been rumors that the She-Hulk show is “a mess,” but the fact that Disney has scheduled it to debut on August 17th may indicate that it has been refined and is good to go.

It may be worrisome that Moon Knight, the first Disney+ series to feature an all-new character in the MCU, attracted fewer watchers than any of the previous Disney+ Marvel shows. For the record, Moon Knight attracted 7 million viewers (even though it was excellent!), versus Hawkeye‘s 14.2M, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier‘s 8.3M (even though that was mediocre), and WandaVision‘s 7.2M (also excellent!).

However, She-Hulk has the benefit of featuring Mark Ruffalo, although reportedly, he only has a small role.

According to former The Hollywood Reporter editor, Matthew Belloni:

So Moon Knight generated about half the initial viewership as Hawkeye, and many fans seem to dislike it intensely. I recently discussed the question of whether Marvel has a creative problem on my podcast, The Town, but even from a purely business perspective, Marvel needs to figure out how to generate Avenger-level interest from non-Avenger properties.

The upcoming She-Hulk is supposedly a mess, I’ve heard (even with Mark Ruffalo in a small role), and Ms. Marvel is another big test for fans. Nobody’s saying Marvel’s TV output is in trouble, but it’s something to keep an eye on.”

I… wouldn’t read too far into this. From what I’ve gathered, most people have liked Moon Knight, even though maybe not as many people saw it. (Not that many people watched WandaVision, which may account for why Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness hasn’t performed as well at the box office.)

Look, folks. These shows are part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. You need to watch them all! And honestly, although I found The Falcon and the Winter Soldier kind of middling, it’s still decent. Watch it!

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law will also include Tim Roth (Twin Peaks) as Emil Blonsky a.k.a. Abomination (last seen in Shang-Chi), Ginger Gonzaga (Kidding) as Jennifer’s BFF, and Renée Elise Goldsberry (Girls5Eva) as Amelia.

The series will debut on August 17 on Disney+.
