At CinemaCon, Sony announced the next picture in its Spider-Man Universe, El Muerto. Platinum-selling reggaeton artist Bad Bunny will star. Bad Bunny took a break from his current tour to appear at the presentation.
Who Is El Muerto?
El Muerto, Juan-Carlos Sanchez, is a luchador who wrestled Spider-Man for a charity event and nearly unmasked the hero who stopped Sanchez by stinging him with a paralyzing poison. When his rival, El Dorado, came to fight and kill Sanchez, the wrestler teamed up with Spider-Man to defeat El Dorado. El Muerto wears a mystical luchador mask which grants him superhuman strength.
El Muerto will mark the first Latino Marvel character to star in a leading role in a movie, although it’s not technically a “Marvel movie.” The Sony flicks are set within their own universe, although it has been established that this is part of the Disney/Marvel Cinematic Universe’s multiverse.
Okay, let’s face it, El Muerto is no Kraven the Hunter or Morbius. Hell, he’s not even on par with Madame Web. But it seems Bad Bunny proposed this film after he decided he wanted to play a superhero in a movie.
Bad Bunny will make his big-screen debut in Sony’s upcoming action flick, Bullet Train. David Leitch directed that picture which features Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the lead. Sony famously hired Taylor-Johnson to star in Kraven the Hunter after their experience with him in Bullet Train. It would appear that the studio was equally impressed with Bad Bunny’s acting and fighting skills, which opened the door for El Muerto.
Bullet Train will hit theaters on July 29, 2022. The all-star cast includes Sandra Bullock, Brad Pitt, Zazie Beetz, Joey King, Logan Lerman, Michael Shannon, Brian Tyree Henry, Hiroyuki Sanada, Karen Fukuhara, and Andrew Koji.
