‘Kraven The Hunter’ Nets Christopher Abbott And Alessandro Nivola In Villain Roles

It looks as though Kraven the Hunter has new prey to track down. It is reported that both Christopher Abbott and Alessandro Nivola have been cast in villain roles. (Even though in the comics, Kraven kind of IS a villain.) Abbott is believed to be playing the assassin and mercenary known only as The Foreigner. He is rumored to be the film’s main antagonist.  Nivola’s role, however, is unknown at this time.

To Catch A Prey

In the comics, The Foreigner is mostly a string-puller with mysterious designs on Spider-Man. In his first story, he bet his fellow assassin/mercenary Chance that he couldn’t kill Spider-Man. Well… obviously he couldn’t, so Foreigner won that wager. The Foreigner continued making wagers regarding Spider-Man, sometimes against Chance and at other times teaming up with him.

With that said, it wouldn’t be surprising if Nivola was playing Chance since these two are so closely connected.

Back to The Foreigner, though his identity is unknown, The Foreigner was once married to Silver Sable. After they divorced, they playfully attempted to assassinate each other on multiple occasions. He also had a romance with the Black Cat. That, however, was a manipulation to get close to Spider-Man.

It should be noted that at different times, Sony has had movies starring Black Cat and Silver Sable in development as well as a flick in which they would have teamed up. While those projects are dead at this time (as far as we know), they could resurface as the Sony Spider-Man Universe continues to expand.

What We Know Of Kraven The Hunter

J.C. Chandor is directing Kraven the Hunter from a screenplay by Art Marcum & Matt Holloway and Richard Wenk. Aaron Taylor Johnson stars in the title role, Ariana DeBose as Calypso, Russell Crowe as Kraven’s father, Nikolai Kravinoff, and Fred Hechinger as Dimitri Smerdyakov, Kraven’s half-brother, who, in the comics, is also the villain The Chameleon.

Christopher Abbott received acclaim for his role in the 2015 indie film James White and the sci-fi action-thriller Possessor. He starred in the Hulu miniseries Catch-22, which was produced by George Clooney.

Nivola has won multiple awards for roles in Selma and American Hustle among others. He was most recently seen as Dickie Moltisanti in The Many Saints of Newark.  He is also recognized for roles in Face/Off, Jurassic Park III, and Black Narcissus among others.

Kraven the Hunter opens on January 13.  How is this cast shaping up for you?
