It was reported last August that Jensen Ackles would appear on Season 3 of Amazon Prime Video’s hit The Boys in the role of Soldier Boy, the comic book’s pastiche of Captain America. It appears that filming has begun, as Ackles reported to set looking a lot different than the clean-cut dreamboat Dean Winchester whom he played for 15 seasons on The CW’s Supernatural.
Eric Kripke, who created both Supernatural and The Boys, shared a photo of Ackles on Twitter, and the actor is barely recognizable! Check it out:

As mentioned in the comics, Soldier Boy is The Boys’ take on Captain America and first appeared during World War II. In the modern world, he leads Payback, the pastiche of The Avengers. However (SPOILER ALERT?), it was later learned that there have been multiple Soldier Boys over the years. Sort of like Captain America, Soldier Boy does not curse or partake in any of the debaucheries that his teammates and other heroes like The Seven engage in. He does however have sex with a member of The Seven in hopes of landing a spot on that team.
It is possible that Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Ackles’ fellow Supernatural alum who played his father John Winchester, may also pop up in S3 as Morgan and Kripke have publically spoken about the idea. But Morgan’s schedule may not permit it, as he still plays Negan on AMC’s The Walking Dead and also launched a quarantine-influenced talk show, Friday Night with the Morgans, with his wife Hilarie Burton, also on AMC.
Between Supernatural and The Boys, Kripke created the NBC series Timeless. Multiple Timeless cast members have since popped up on The Boys, most notably, Claudia Doumit who plays the super-powered congresswoman, Victoria Neuman. Malcolm Barrett has appeared a few times as Seth Reed, a Vought PR guy who experienced an *ahem* rather serious personal injury during a sexual encounter with a “Supe.” And in S2, Goran Višnjić recurred as Alistair Adana, the head of a Scientology-like cult.
It is confirmed that S3 will adapt the “Herogasm” storyline from the comics, which lampoons the concept of annual company-wide crossover “events.” It turns out all the heroes in the world do come together every year, but it’s not to save the world.
Amazon has not announced when fans can expect to see the new episodes, but Season 1 and 2 are now available to stream in their entirety.
