‘Ms. Marvel’ Will Most Likely Not Debut Until 2022; Key Art Shows Full Costume

Despite an unofficial confirmation just weeks ago that Ms. Marvel would arrive on Disney+ by the end of this year, it now seems that the show is on track for an early 2022 release instead. However, this is also unofficial and simply reported by TV Line after checking with sources. Disney+’s next major project is What If…?, an animated series that takes a look at the multiverse and how things played out in parallel universes. That arrives next Wednesday, August 11.  Hawkeye will likely be the final Marvel project of the year, arriving on November 24. It is currently unknown whether Hawkeye will consist of six or eight episodes, but as it stands, it looks as though the last episode will arrive on December 29, essentially closing out the year.

Generally speaking, Disney+ gives fans a breather between these shows. While die-hards may be chomping at the bit for more, it’s nice to get a rest to fully process the previous series before jumping into a new one.

Ms. Marvel will star the first brand-new hero to the MCU, Pakistani-American teenager Kamala Khan, portrayed by Iman Vellani. As we know, the Disney+ shows will lead into the movies and vice versa. It has already been confirmed that Ms. Marvel will share the screen with Carol Danvers and Monica Rambeau in The Marvels which is due to hit theaters on November 11, 2022.

But if the wait for Ms. Marvel is killing you, Disney did offer a little teaser to hopefully tide you over– key art depicting a full-body shot of Vellani in her costume.

This is hands-down one of the most comic-accurate costumes yet!  The biggest change is that instead of wearing boots, she is sporting Converse All-Star low-tops.

But perhaps the costume isn’t the biggest reveal. Notice that her hand is encased in energy. It looks as though Ms. Marvel will undergo a power change from the page to the screen.

In the comics, she can “embiggen” her body or parts of it, allowing her to stretch, make her fists huge, or turn into a giant. It looks as though on the show, she won’t stretch but may create energy body parts that she can likely “embiggen.” (This reminds me a little of the X-Men character, Armor.) It’s also possible that she will possess some other type of energy power. Hopefully, her depiction won’t be too big a departure from the comics and her powers will be unique from those of Carol, Monica, and the other characters in the MCU.

Are you looking forward to Ms. Marvel on Disney+?  Check back for updates as they arrive!
