RUMOR: ‘She-Hulk’ Will Battle The Wrecking Crew

Disney's The Wrecking Crew

Reportedly, the Marvel supervillain team, The Wrecking Crew, is slated to make its live-action debut on Disney+’s upcoming series, She-Hulk.  This revelation comes courtesy of the website The Cosmic Circus.  I’m not familiar with this site, so I can’t vouch for the veracity of this report, but it would make total sense to pit The Hulk’s super strong cousin against this pack of bruisers.

This group was created by Len Wein and Sal Buscema and made its debut in The Defenders #17 in 1974.  Their leader, The Wrecker, had previously appeared as an enemy of Thor and made his debut in 1968’s The Mighty Thor #148.  The rest of the team– Bulldozer, Piledriver, and Thunderball– debuted in The Defenders.  Like most Marvel villains, they have battled a variety of Marvel champions like the Avengers, Captain America, Iron Fist, the Runaways, Spider-Man, Namor the Sub-Mariner, the Thing, Doctor Strange, Daredevil, Alpha Flight, the She-Hulk, and the X-Men.

The Wrecker (Dirk Garthwaite) carries a magical crowbar.  Bulldozer (Henry Camp) wears an armored helmet which he uses to headbutt opponents and objects.  Piledriver (Brian Philip Calusky) has huge fists which can punch through stone and other objects.  (He is described as being stronger than the “average” Asgardian.)  Thunderball (Dr. Eliot Franklin), the smartest of the group, has a huge ball and chain that he slings with expert proficiency to cause great damage.  (Aside from The Wrecker, Thunderball is the one member that most often battles other heroes solo.)

She-Hulk was developed for TV by Jessica Gao (Rick & Morty) who also serves as head writer.  (Marvel Studios/Disney+ doesn’t use showrunners like other outlets.)  Kat Coiro (It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia) and Anu Valia (Awkwafina is Nora From Queens) are set to direct.

Tatiana Maslany will star as the titular champion, attorney Jennifer Walters, the cousin of Bruce Banner.  In order to save her life, Banner must give her an emergency blood transfusion, which transfers some of his gamma-ray powers to her.  Unlike The Hulk, who is sometimes a savage monster, Jennifer, as the She-Hulk, retains her intelligence and personality in her mutated form.

Renée Elise Goldsberry MAY be playing Patsy Walker, a character who becomes the superhero Hellcat in the comics.  Ginger Gonzaga is playing “Jennifer’s best friend,” who may be Jill Stevens, a character from She-Hulk’s first comic series.  Jameela Jamil has been cast as the supervillain Titania/Mary MacPherran.

Mark Ruffalo will return as Bruce Banner and/or The Hulk.  After Endgame, it’s not clear whether he can revert back to Banner without dying from the injuries he suffered after snapping his fingers while wearing the Infinity Gauntlet.

Also returning from the films is Tim Roth as The Abomination/Emil Blonsky, but prior to that, he will be seen as The Abomination in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

RUMOR has it, Megan Thee Stallion will appear as herself, playing one of Jennifer’s celebrity clients.

She-Hulk has been described as a half-hour legal comedy, and unlike WandaVision, this series was conceived as ongoing, so there will likely be additional seasons after this one.  It does not, at this time, seem as though there are plans for She-Hulk to appear in a film… yet.

Check back for updates on She-Hulk as they arrive!
