Reportedly, Hamilton‘s Renée Elise Goldsberry is in final negotiations to join the cast of Disney+’s She-Hulk, opposite Tatianna Maslany.  Allegedly, Goldsberry will portray a character named “Amelia,” but often pseudonyms are used during the audition process.  (I don’t know of a major Marvel character named Amelia. Anyone have any suggestions?)

Goldsberry may be best known for originating the role of Angelica Schuyler in Hamilton and was featured in the filmed version released on Disney+.  She will star as Wickie on the new Peacock series Girls5eva, executive produced by Tina Fey, Robert Carlock, and Meredith Scardino, the latter of whom created the comedy. Goldsberry recently appeared on Zoe’s Extraordinary Playlist and co-starred in Season 2 of Altered Carbon opposite Anthony Mackie. She previously received two Emmy nominations for her role as Evangeline Williamson on One Life to Live.

She-Hulk
Marvel Comics/Disney

She-Hulk focuses on Jennifer Walters (Maslany), Bruce Banner’s cousin and a successful attorney. In the comics, Jennifer was prosecuting a crime boss, who put a hit out on her. It was nearly successful and she almost died, but Banner was visiting at the time and was forced to give her a blood transfusion. The result was that she gained a portion of his gamma-enhanced abilities, but unlike The Hulk, who was a savage monster at the time, Jennifer retained her intelligence and personality in her enhanced state. She soon realized she preferred this and stayed in She-Hulk form at all times.

There will be 10 30-minute episodes of She-Hulk, which was developed for television by Jessica Gao, who acts as head writer. Kat Coiro will direct the first and final episodes plus four others. Anu Valia is also attached to direct. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige referred to the series as a “legal comedy,” which means like WandaVision, it will bring a completely different element to the MCU. Unlike WandaVision and The Falcon & The Winter Soldier, She-Hulk is being structured in a way that may allow for future seasons.

Mark Ruffalo will appear as either Bruce Banner or The Hulk, or possibly both. At the end of Avengers: Endgame, The Hulk suffered a pretty massive injury after snapping the Infinity Gauntlet, which may require him to stay in that form. (Like Jennifer in the comics, he already seemed content to stay in “Professor Hulk” mode at all times, anyway.)

She-Hulk also welcomes back Tim Roth as Emil Blonsky/Abomination, the villain not seen since The Incredible Hulk. Ginger Gonzaga has been cast as a character described only as “Jennifer’s best friend.”

She-Hulk is not scheduled to arrive on Disney+ until 2022 but check back for updates as they arrive.
