Muschietti’s husband, Andy, is the film’s director.  The couple previously collaborated on the two It movies.

Ezra Miller returns in the title role after starring in Justice League and making cameos in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad. Ben Affleck will also return as Batman/Bruce Wayne, although it is also known that Michael Keaton’s Batman will appear.  Affleck’s Batman, who is The Flash’s teammate, will provide him with a new uniform. It’s unknown how Keaton’s Batman factors in, although it is known that this movie will be influenced by the time-bending storyline Flashpoint.

Andy Muschietti previously expressed:

“[Affleck plays] a very substantial part of the emotional impact of the movie. The interaction and relationship between Barry and Affleck’s Wayne will bring an emotional level that we haven’t seen before. It’s Barry’s movie, it’s Barry’s story, but their characters are more related than we think. They both lost their mothers to murder, and that’s one of the emotional vessels of the movie. That’s where the Affleck Batman kicks in.”

In the world of Flashpoint, Bruce Wayne was killed in Crime Alley and it was his father, Thomas, who became Batman to avenge him. Bruce’s mother, Martha, became that reality’s Joker. Jeffrey Dean Morgan played Thomas Wayne in Batman V Superman and Lauren Cohan played Martha. It was strongly believed that Morgan would play the Flashpoint Batman, but it seems that plan has been scrapped and Keaton may have taken his place.

It is known that Ray Fisher’s Cyborg will not appear in The Flash, despite it being previously rumored that he would and the fact that Cyborg played a major role in Flashpoint. (Fisher’s future with the DC cinematic universe is in question after he has made accusations against Warner Brothers’ Walter Hamada and Justice League co-director Joss Whedon.)

The Flash is scheduled to be released on November 4th, 2022.  In the meantime, Miller’s Flash and Affleck’s Batman will be seen in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, the four-hour do-over which drops on HBO Max on March 18.
