While at one point in time it seemed like the long in development film based on DC Comics’ The Flash might die on the vine, things are really starting to look up for the Scarlet Speedster.
This past weekend at CCXP, DC Comics was on site with updates about a number of their upcoming projects, The Flash included. It was there that Andy Muschietti, who is getting behind the camera to direct this upcoming superhero film about the fastest man alive, made a big reveal regarding The Flash’s suit!
Apparently Barry can look forward to a new costume in his upcoming “solo” film! The Flash will have Batman to thank for his sweet new duds. As Batman’s self proclaimed power is that he’s “rich,” it makes total sense that he would help out his fellow heroes with new gear and costumes. We say “solo” in quotes because while this film is centered on The Flash, he will be far from alone on this outing with multiple (yes, multiple) incarnations of Batman said to be joining him on this adventure.
In addition to Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne (which is from the same ‘Earth’ as this version of The Flash), we also have Michael Keaton returning to the role for the first time in almost three decades. There are also rumors running rampant that several other former caped crusaders may be popping up in some form, so it’s definitely going to be an unique adventure!
In the theatrical cut of Justice League (2017), one of the strongest elements of the film was the relationship between Barry Allen’s The Flash and Bruce Wayne’s Batman. The two characters really seemed to bond in a big way, with the aged Batman taking on a sort of mentor role for The Flash who was still new to being a superhero. This shouldn’t be too big of a surprise considering Batman has a penchant for mentoring younger heroes and in this universe. We know he has previously had at least one sidekick, the new deceased Robin.
Earlier this year at DC FanDome, Andy Muschietti touched on why he feels these two heroes seem to be such a good fit for one another, saying:
He’s a very substantial part of the emotional impact of the movie. The interaction and relationship between Barry and Affleck’s Wayne will bring an emotional level that we haven’t seen before. It’s Barry’s movie, it’s Barry’s story, but their characters are more related than we think. They both lost their mothers to murder, and that’s one of the emotional vessels of the movie. That’s where the Affleck Batman kicks in.
It certainly sounds like Ben Affleck’s version of The Dark Knight will be playing a major supporting role in Barry Allen’s biggest adventure yet! If there is one thing we learned from Justice League, it’s that these heroes work best when they work together.
