There’s absolutely no doubt that 2021 is going to be a huge year for Marvel Studios and Disney+. With Wandavision set to debut in January and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier a few months later in March, there is plenty of content on the horizon for fans of superheroes. Not long after comes Loki, which follows the tricky half-brother of Thor after he absconds with the Tesseract during the events of Avengers: Endgame. Fans were treated to an exclusive look at the upcoming series during tonight’s investor’s call and we have that video for you here.
The trailer begins with that scene from Endgame before showing Loki (Tom Hiddleston) dropping into the middle of a barren desert and being found by a few indigenous people. Then it just gets weird. We’re treated to glimpses of far-off worlds, soldiers with rifles, a city in ruins, and what looks like the garden center of a Wal-Mart.
One of the most curious scenes has Loki in a slick suit and sunglasses jumping out of an airplane with a bag of money, insinuating that he’s D.B. Cooper. It’s definitely a clever take on the character, to say the least. We even get to see Owen Wilson’s character, who mentions a mysterious location known as The TVA.
During the Investor’s Call, Marvel Studio head Kevin Feige described the show as putting “Loki in the center of a crime thriller,” and the visuals in the trailer really support that. That’s not something that we’d expect a character like Loki to be a part of, or really any superhero. But Marvel is good when it mashes the superhero genre with something else, so I have high hopes for what Loki will become.
Loki will debut on Disney+ in May 2021.
