Despite Gal Gadot’s Recent Comments, ‘Wonder Woman 3’ Is Not In The Works

Just recently, Gal Gadot teased that she would return in a third Wonder Woman solo film, collaborating with Peter Safran and James Gunn, who are shepherding the new, rebooted DC Universe.

As she stated:

“I love portraying Wonder Woman. It’s so close to and dear to my heart. From what I heard from James and from Peter is that we’re gonna develop a Wonder Woman 3 together.”

Later, she commented:

”I was invited to a meeting with James Gunn and Peter Safran. They told me, and I’m quoting: ‘You’re in the best hands. We’re going to develop Wonder Woman 3 with you. [We] love you as Wonder Woman— you’ve got nothing to worry about.’ So time will tell.”

Well, that didn’t make sense, seeing as how nearly every other DCEU actor has been dismissed and Safran and Gunn appear to be starting from scratch (with a few exceptions).

Now “sources with knowledge of the situation” have informed Variety that there is no Wonder Woman 3 in development.  In fact, Gunn previously announced a full slate of new DC movies and TV shows and Wonder Woman was nowhere to be found.  The closest project was Paradise Lost which was described as a Game of Thrones-like Max series that would show the formation of the Amazon’s civilization on Themyscira, presumably set long before Diana’s birth.

Gadot debuted as Wonder Woman in Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice then reprised her role in Justice League.  She headlined two solo films, Wonder Woman and Wonder Woman 1984. The first as extremely well-received and the second of which… was not.  She recently cameoed in Shazam!: Fury of the Gods.

In January, Gunn announced that the new DC Universe, which apparently spans comics, films, television, and video games, will be relaunched under the title Gods and Monsters.  The first film entry is Superman: Legacy, which stars David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan and is supposed to hit theaters on July 11, 2025. But with the writers and actors strikes going on right now, that may be pushed back.  Gunn himself is writing and directing.

That will be followed by Batman: The Brave and the Bold, although no casting has been announced for that yet.  It will, however, be directed by Andy Muschietti, who directed The Flash.

That will be followed by Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow and Swamp Thing.

It was announced at the same time that a picture based on The Authority would actually come between Superman: Legacy and Batman: The Brave and the Bold, but since then, it has been heavily rumored that this was just a misdirect and that this film actually isn’t in the works, but stay tuned for updates.
