‘Superman: Legacy’: Meet Your New Clark And Lois – David Corenswet And Rachel Brosnahan

After a months-long search, Peter Safran and James Gunn have found their new Clark Kent and Lois Lane for the big film that will relaunch the cinematic DC Universe — Superman: Legacy.  David Corenswet will don the cape to become the most iconic superhero of all time, while Rachel Brosnahan will tackle the role of the tough-as-nails reporter Lois Lane.

Corenswett reportedly beat out Tom Brittney and Nicholas Hoult, while Brosnahan’s competition was Phoebe Dynevor and Emma Mackey.

Cornswet assumed the role of Superman following the departure of Henry Cavill who starred in the most recent DC films.  Brandon Routh and, of course, Christopher Reeve previously portrayed the Man of Steel on the big screen.

The most recent cinematic Lois Lane was Amy Adams.  Before that, Kate Bosworth played her in Superman Returns, and Margot Kidder embodied the role opposite Reeve in the original film series.

Gunn will write and direct Superman: Legacy himself.  It does not appear that the other roles like Lex Luthor and Jimmy Olsen have been cast yet.  (Although RUMOR has it, both brothers Alexander and Bill Skarsgård are being considered for Luthor.)

Corenswet first gained attention for two Ryan Murphy Netflix series The Politician and Hollywood before appearing on HBO’s We Own This City.  He will next be seen in Apple TV+’s Lady in the Lake.  In theaters, he recently co-starred in the A24 horror picture Pearl and will be in the Twister sequel, Twisters.

Brosnahan has won an Emmy and Golden Globe for headlining the Amazon Prime Video series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, a show that has won 20 Emmys over its run.

While promoting the final season of Mrs. Maisel on The View last month, Brosnahan was asked about the possibility of her playing Lois Lane and she evaded the question as most actors do:

Superman: Legacy will set the stage for a full reboot of the DCU.  But Gunn is best known for more comedic properties like The Suicide Squad and Guardians of the Galaxy, so some have reservations about his handling of Superman.

But Gunn previously addressed this concern by saying:

“I completely relate to Superman because he’s everything I am.  He’s somebody who is an outsider who feels like an alien, but also the ultimate insider, because he’s fucking Superman. And that’s kind of like what I feel like.”

Superman: Legacy already has a release date of July 11, 2025, although there is now concern that the writers’ strike and a potential SAG strike could delay that.

But so far, what do you think of this casting?
