Daniels’ Next Project After ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ Will Be The ‘Star Wars’ Series ‘Skeleton Crew’

Just over a week after the Academy Awards, Everything Everywhere All At Once directors, Daniels, have answered that age-old question, “What are they going to do next?”  After all, this was their first major success following their previous bizarre feature Swiss Army Man.  Everything Everywhere All At Once nabbed seven Oscars, including three for Daniels for Picture of the Year, Screenplay, and Directing.  The film also proved to be a surprise hit at the box office thanks to buzzy word of mouth and great reviews.

Well, Daniels (Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert), who have helmed multiple TV episodes, have returned to that medium in a big way.  It has been revealed that they joined Jon Watts’ Disney+ Star Wars series Skeleton Crew, although it’s unclear whether they directed one or more episodes.

Previously, Daniels helmed episodes of the trippy Marvel series Legion and Awkwafina is Nora From Queens.

Skeleton Crew comes from Jon Watts and his longtime collaborator Christopher Ford. Ford crafted the latest Spider-Man film trilogy and also worked on the acclaimed Cop Car, which led to Watts getting the Spider-Man gig.  The series is set concurrently with The Mandalorian and is described as a coming-of-age story focusing on four teenage characters.  Jon Favreau will serve as executive producer Jude Law fronts the cast, obviously not as a teenager.

Skeleton Crew wrapped filming in January, so Daniels’ involvement began prior to their Oscars sweep. This looks like their first project that will be released following Everything Everywhere All At Once.

The question now sort of remains “What will they do next?”  It’s safe to say that studios are probably lining up to throw money at anything they want to make.  But will they take the money and jump into major franchises?  Or do they want to keep making weirder lower-budget fare like Everything Everywhere All At Once and Swiss Army Man?  And since they have done movies and TV series, which medium will they choose to further explore?

What would you like to see Daniels do next?
