Tom Holland will swing back into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige revealed that Disney still has “big plans” for this iteration of Peter Parker following the massive changes that were made to the character in Spider-Man: No Way Home.  However, it appears that we’ll have to wait a while to see the continuation of the now-forgotten Peter.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Feige said:

“All I will say is that we have the story.  We have big ideas for that, and our writers are just putting pen to paper now.”

Spider-Man: No Way Home set a pandemic record, earning $1.9 billion. Fueled by the continued appeal of Holland’s take on the character, with the added attraction of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s versions of the same character in the previous Sony franchises, not to mention the returns of Alfred Molina as Doctor Octopus, Willem Dafoe as Green Goblin, Jamie Foxx as Electro, Rhys Ifans as The Lizard, and Thomas Hayden Church as Sandman. it was no surprise the film did so well at the box office.

The movie ended on something of a bummer cliffhanger, so it will be nice to see a redemption of some kind.

Jon Watts directed the three Tom Holland Spider-Man movies, while Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers either wrote or co-wrote them.  Feige didn’t specify whether any of them were returning, but here’s hoping.  Watts has attached himself to rebooting the Final Destination brand for Sony/Columbia Pictures. It’s possible he could do both projects.

At the end of No Way Home, thanks to a spell from Doctor Strange, everyone forgot about Peter Parker.  While that helped him recover his secret identity, he also lost all connections to those close to him, including his girlfriend MJ (Zendaya) and best friend Ned (Jacob Batalon).

Now all three are heading to college and Disney announced an animated series, Spider-Man: Freshman Year. This may fill in some gaps, but a lot of people don’t watch the Disney+ shows.  It would be nice to see some resolutions in live-action on the big screen.

Considering the writers are just now getting started, it may be a while before we get that.

Are you excited to get more Tom Holland as Spider-Man?  Stay tuned for updates!
