‘The Flash’: Stephen Amell Will Return As Oliver Queen/Green Arrow For The Final Season

Despite being dead, somehow Oliver Queen a.k.a. Green Arrow will return for the final season of The Flash.  Stephen Amell portrayed Oliver/Green Arrow for eight seasons of The CW series Arrow.  In the second season, the character Barry Allen was introduced, as portrayed by Grant Gustin.  The two-episode arc, “The Scientist” served as a backdoor pilot for the spinoff The Flash.  Arrow ended in 2020 after eight seasons, and now, The Flash is in its home stretch, wrapping up after nine, and it has been announced that Amell will make a return appearance.

To tease fans even more, Stephen Amell posted this image of him and Grant Gustin together in Vancouver:

According to executive producer Eric Wallace:

“As soon as our final season was announced, we knew we wanted Stephen to come back and reprise his iconic role as Oliver Queen.  After all, it was Oliver who originally launched Barry Allen on his heroic path. That’s why everyone on Team Flash felt so strongly that it was important to create a full-circle moment with Oliver’s return in the final season of The Flash. The result is an epic-yet-emotional episode we hope Arrowverse fans will enjoy. It’s all to say “thank you” to everyone for watching and supporting our show throughout nine wonderful years. We absolutely cannot wait for everyone to see Grant and Stephen saving the world together again. And yes, there will be thrills, chills, and tears.”

This follows the announcement of the returns of David Ramsey as John Diggle (who was primarily a supporting character on Arrow), Keiynan Lonsdale as Wally West/Kid Flash, and Sendhil Ramamurthy as Ramsey Rosso/Bloodwork.  Those actors and characters will appear in episode 909.  It wasn’t stated when Amell would pop up, but it will most likely be the same episode.

The “Arrowverse” once dominated The CW and also included Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, Batwoman, and Black Lightning.  However, all of these programs have already ended.  The currently running Superman & Lois was originally created as part of the “Arrowverse,” but with all of these other programs wrapping up, that series has since been established as existing in its own timeline.
