The Flash is getting the band back together for one last gig.  As this CW stalwart coasts into its ninth and final season, it has been revealed that some familiar faces will return after lengthy hiatuses.  David Ramsey, Keiynan Lonsdale, and Sendhil Ramamurthy will pop up in episode 909.

Ramsey returns as John Diggle, who was primarily a supporting character from Arrow, the program which spawned The Flash.  However, over the years, Ramsey/Diggle managed to appear in ten episodes of The Flash, including crossover storylines.

A former A.R.G.U.S. agent, Diggle was the best friend of Oliver Queen and a founding member of “Team Arrow.”  Eventually, he adopted his own non-powered superhero identity as Spartan, although there appeared to be plans to turn him into a Green Lantern.

The Flash executive producer Eric Wallace stated:

“As one of the legacy Arrowverse characters who helped start it all, John Diggle holds a special place in our hearts, as well as the fans.  Plus, the commanding presence and commitment to excellence actor/director David Ramsey brings to the screen each and every time is truly inspiring. So, of course, it was a no-brainer to have Diggle join Team Flash in our final season! So, get ready for a very emotional reunion as John Diggle aka Spartan helps protect Central City alongside Team Flash one, last time.”

Lonsdale appeared as Wally West, a.k.a. Kid Flash, in 45 episodes, serving as a series regular in Seasons 2 and 3, recurring in Season 4, and guest-starring in Season 5.  He popped up in Legends of Tomorrow, with plans to make him a regular member of the cast of that ensemble series, but Lonsdale opted to step away from the role of Kid Flash for personal reasons.

But he always left the door open to return in guest appearances, and as Wallace said:

“We’re so happy to reunite with the incredibly talented Keiynan Lonsdale as a part of The Flash’s final season. Because Kid Flash isn’t just another speedster—he’s a beloved part of our Team Flash family.  So as soon as we knew he was coming back, we set out to create a special and heartfelt story for his return. The result is a brilliant performance from Keiynan that showcases a side of Wally West you’ve never seen before.”

Ramamurthy’s Ramsey Rosso/Bloodwork served as the Big Bad in nine episodes of Season 6.

Wallace explained:

“Ever since Sendhil turned in such a brilliantly haunting and unforgettable performance as the tortured Ramsey Rosso in Season Six, we’ve been looking for a way to bring him back.  We also knew we wanted to have Ramsey play a part in Flash’s final race. Fortunately, everything came together, and now the villainous Bloodwork’s return will set into motion one of the Flash’s wildest and most emotional adventures yet.”

The Flash stars Grant Gustin as Barry Allen/The Flash, Candice Patton as Iris West-Allen, Danielle Panabaker as Caitlyn Snow/Killer Frost, Danielle Nicolet as Cecile Horton,  Kayla Compton as Allegra Garcia, Brandon McKnight as Chester P. Runk, and Jon Cor as Mark Blaine/Chillblaine.  Former series regulars Jesse L. Martin and Tom Cavanagh will recur in Season 9 as Joe West and some version of Harrison Wells, respectively.

The ninth and final season of The Flash will premiere on The CW on February 8.
