‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ Second Trailer: Wait… Is This Actually Going To Be GOOD?!

Practically no one was impressed by the first teaser trailer for The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which featured only two lines by Chris Pratt as the lead character, Mario.  Generally, people were put off by the fact that Pratt spoke in his normal voice and didn’t mimic the thick Italian accent the video game character has.

There’s also the fact that video game adaptations are really hit or miss.  There have been some hits like Detective Pikachu and Sonic the Hedgehog, but there have been many, many more complete misses (*ahem* including the original live-action Super Mario Bros.).

But gosh darn it, a new longer trailer has dropped and this new animated picture actually looks GOOD!  The trailer includes allusions to a LOT of the Mario games, including Mario Cart and Mario in that Raccoon Suit.  Also, oddly Pratt does seem to have an Italian accent at the beginning of this trailer.  I’m… sure they’ll explain that.

Check it out for yourself:

Keep in mind, Chris Pratt’s break-out film role wasn’t as Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy.  It was as Emmet in The LEGO Movie, one of the best-animated movies ever.  Could this be a return to form?

The Super Mario Bros. Movie hails from Illuminations, which has rivaled Disney in recent years with hits like the Despicable Me/Minions, The Secret Life of Pets, and Sing franchises.

Joining Pratt in the cast are Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, and Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong.  Charles Martinet, who voices Mario and Luigi and other characters in the video games, will provide multiple cameo voices in the film.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie will jump into movie theaters on April 7, 2023.  Are you ready to level up after seeing this trailer?
