Mandolorian Season 3 Trailer Wows D23

The Mandalorian title imageThe news coming out of D23 in Anaheim has been coming in hot all weekend. Today the Disney Fan Expo shared a lot of first looks and trailers. The biggest of the day would be the Season 3 trailer for The Mandalorian.

Giancarlo Esposito, who plays Mandalorian villain Moff Gideon, introduced the trailer to the crowded Anaheim Convention Center hall. He gave an impassioned speech about the wonder and greatness of the Star Wars franchise before showing them the first Season Three trailer.

You can check out the trailer below:

The trailer delivers a lot for fans that have been waiting since the end of Season 2 in late 2021. While we saw Mando and Grogu reunited in the Book of Boba Fett, Season 3 of The Mandalorian looks to deliver all the armor action we can handle.

In fact, we look like we are going to get a lot of Mandalorians, including Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff), the would-be ruler of Mandalore. Of course, Season 2 ended with our titular Mando in possession of the Darksaber, which Bo-Katan needs to claim the throne but can only be won in battle. Along with her, we got a look at a whole lot of other armor-wearing warriors, along with some other returning friends, and a couple of surprising faces, (BABA FRICK!)

Esposito delivered the fans a message of love and appreciation. He told them, “You have something I want. What that is, is passion for this franchise. What that is, is wonder and amazement at what’s been happening.”  He continued to thank the show’s producers saying, “I am grateful to David Filoni. I’m grateful to John Favreau. I’m grateful to Rick and Kathleen and to Disney for having allowed me to be part of this world.”

To the crowd, he said,

“If you are here you LOVE Star Wars. Why do you love it? Great storytelling, great action, great characters who are involved in something that is real for a purpose. It is the hero and the heroine’s journey that matters. It’s that you can see yourselves in the Armorer. You can see yourselves in Mando. You can see yourselves in Moff Gideon. It is a wonderful place to be in this child-like wonder in this franchise. So I left off in this place of terror. I left off in the place of not knowing where Moff Gideon would go. I left off in a place of vulnerability.  You hadn’t seen Moff be vulnerable before, wondering what is going to happen to me. This is a wonderful place to be, a wonderful springboard into Season 3. I am grateful to be here.  And only you can supply yourself with the patience to find out what happens”

When Disney Plus launched way back before the pandemic in 2019, it quickly established itself as a strong voice in the Star Wars franchise, and as a series of its own in the streaming world. Since then, it has been joined by several other series, including this year’s Obi-Wan Kenobi, and The Book of Boba Fett, as well as several Marvel and Disney series. Yet, The Mandalorian still maintains its place in the cultural zeitgeist, thanks to a great cast, story, and the cuteness of Grogu.
