While it isn’t quite as popular as its namesake film, Netflix‘s original anime series Pacific Rim: The Black arrived last summer and quickly gained a passionate fanbase. The series picked up after the events of the first Pacific Rim (2013) film. It told a new story from a perspective we had never seen before in this universe, leaving fans begging for more by the time the series wrapped up its first season. This week, it was announced that the series would indeed be returning for a second and final season to wrap up its story.
Closing This New Chapter
Netflix has announced that Pacific Rim: The Black (2021) is returning to the streaming service with an all-new season of episodes on April 19th, 2022. This second season is going to wrap up the series’ story and bring things to a close which will hopefully satisfy the show’s fanbase.
As mentioned above, this series picks up after the events of the first film directed by visionary helmer Guillermo del Toro, but before the events of its 2018 sequel, Pacific Rim: Uprising. In this timeline, the Kaiju have completely overtaken the continent of Australia. Even with their giant superpowered Jaegers, mankind has lost this fight and now the surviving humans have been splintered into small groups that are just trying to survive.
Two teenage siblings, Taylor and Hayley, are separated from their parents and end up stumbling upon a long-abandoned training Jaeger, the Atlas Destroyer. They manage to wake it up and begin fighting back. The only problem is the Kaiju aren’t the only things causing trouble in the Australian outback.

About Pacific Rim: The Black Season 2: In the epic series conclusion of Pacific Rim: The Black (S2), the journey is far from over. Our brave siblings Taylor and Hayley still hope to reach the safety of Sydney aboard Atlas Destroyer, the scaled-down training Jaeger left behind when Australia was evacuated. With teenage assassin Mei and the mysterious human/kaiju hybrid bOy joining Taylor and Hayley, this makeshift family must cross a dangerous territory controlled by the bloodthirsty cult Sisters of the Kaiju. Season 2 will premiere on the Netflix streaming service on April 19th, 2022.
