The Halo live-action TV series has been in the works for years and has passed through the hands of many creators and outlets, but at long last, it’s on its way!  Now based at Paramount+, Halo‘s first teaser trailer is finally here.

The clip is brief, showing only the Spartan leader Master Chief’s battle-scarred back and bald head as he suits up in his famous armor.  A robotic female voice says “Hello, Master Chief.”

Pablo Schreiber was cast in the role of Master Chief back in 2018, fresh off his run on American Gods. The cast also includes Natascha McElhone as Dr. Catherine Halsey, Jen Taylor as Cortana, Yerin Ha as Kwan Ha, Charlie Murphy as Makee, Shabana Azmi as Admiral Margaret Parangosky, Bokeem Woodbine as Soren-066, Olive Gray as Miranda Keyes, Kate Kennedy as Kai-125, Natasha Culzac as Riz-028, Bentley Kalu as Vannak-134, and Danny Sapani as Captain Jacob Keyes.

You can watch the teaser trailer below and then read on if you want to hear about the development of this series:

The Halo series, based on the popular video game franchise, has been in development since the early ‘teens.  It was originally supposed to air on Showtime in conjunction with Xbox Entertainment Studios and initially boasted Steven Spielberg as producer.  It was originally announced as arriving in 2015, with episodes first airing on Showtime before being accessible via Xbox.  (That obviously didn’t happen.)

Spielberg abandoned the project and was replaced by Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes).  Kyle Killen (Awake, Lone Star) was named showrunner and Showtime placed a ten-episode order.  At that time, it was expected that Halo would arrive by 2020.  (Nope.)

Wyatt left the project and was replaced by Otto Bathurst (His Dark Materials, Peaky Blinders).  Steven Kane (The Closer, The Last Ship) was installed as co-showrunner alongside Killen, with Kane overseeing filming in Budapest and Killen remaining in the U.S.

Killen left the project in late 2019 and Kane has since departed following the wrap of filming.

In February of this year, it was decided that Halo would now be issued via Paramount+ instead of Showtime.  (I don’t think the Xbox streaming service even still exists.  Anyone?)

Now, at long last, it looks as though Halo will finally arrive sometime in 2022.  Are you excited that an adaptation of this hit game brand is becoming a reality?
