It’s only been five years since the last Ghostbusters film, but this fall the brand is making its triumphant return to theaters with the first real continuation of the original franchise since 1989 with Ghostbusters: Afterlife.
Sony just dropped the latest trailer for the film, and it looks to be jam packed with nods to the original Ghostbusters (1984) in a fresh new way! Check out the trailer below!
Ghostbusters: Afterlife tells the story of a single mother (Carrie Coon) who moves to a small town in the middle of nowhere with her two children (Finn Wolfhard and McKenna Grace) after inheriting a house from her father. But Dad wasn’t all that he seemed, as the family uncovers some of his old secrets he left buried in the old house, rediscovering the lost legacy of the Ghostbusters.
In addition to the actors mentioned above, Ghostbusters: Afterlife introduces Paul Rudd, Bokeem Woodbine, Logan Kim, Celeste O’Conner, Marlon Kazadi, and Sydney Mae Diaz to the mix. Fans of the original films will be pleased to hear that the majority of the classic cast are returning as well, including Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts. Unfortunately, in the thirty years this project took to get off the ground, we lost the legendary Harold Ramis, who is still spiritually represented in the film (no pun intended).
The Jason Reitman directed Ghostbusters: Afterlife is currently set to release exclusively in theaters on November 11, 2021. This is after numerous release date shifts caused by the ongoing global pandemic that has prompted an insurmountable number of films to slide further out on the calendar.
